Just applying to jobs online isn’t enough to get you a job. 👩🏻‍💻

From all of the cybersecurity job candidates and new grads I’ve talked to who’ve gotten hired, one of the biggest differentiators is the fact that they’re utilizing their network.

This means reaching out to recruiters on LinkedIn. 📩

This means connecting with hiring managers and thanking them for posting a job listing you applied for.

This means going to B-sides and other in-person networking events.

Making a connection with a real person, whether it be online or in-person, is the most effective way to get leads or opportunities into cybersecurity. 🔐

Cold applying to jobs online makes it a lot harder for you to stand out, especially since there are likely thousands of other candidates applying to the same job.

This changes drastically if you’re handing your resume directly to a recruiter at a conference or a career fair.

Make the connection and you’ll have a 10x higher chance of standing out to a recruiter or hiring manager.

Let me know your thoughts in the comments below, would love to hear what you think. 👇
