Microsoft just laid off 6,000 people - its second-largest layoff ever.
3% of its global workforce. Gone.
Among them were PMs who led reorgs. Engineers who built infra you still use.
Designers who shaped how millions interact with tech.
One of them shared her story - 7 years at the company.
Then, a last-minute calendar invite. No title. No context.
An unfamiliar face on Zoom.
And just like that, she was out.
No retrospective. No closure. Just release.
And yet, she called her journey âamazing.â
She said: âIâll take a few days to figure out whatâs next.â
That line stuck with me.
Because this isnât rare anymore. Tech is shifting.
Companies scale fast, automate deeper, and restructure more than they reflect.
And the new euphemism?
âWeâre helping employees focus on meaningful work.â
What it often means:
âWeâve cut heads. The workâs still thereâjust fewer people doing it.â
Letâs not pretend.
When they hire you - youâre family.
When they fire you - youâre cost.
Itâs not evil. Itâs efficiency. But it still hurts.
So hereâs what no one tells you in onboarding:
Job security is dead.
Brand names wonât save you.
And loyalty is a one-way street.
But you are not powerless.
The most dangerous thing today is being replaceable.
The most powerful? Being able to build.
Build with AI. With speed. With clarity.
So when the system breaks you donât.
If you were laid off: take your time. Reflect. Grieve if you want
But come back swinging. Not chasing a title
But designing a life where no one else holds the pen.
Becayse Maybe the layoff wasnât rejection. Maybe it was life whispering,
âYouâre meant for more.â

One of my friends took a career break to serve his ailing mother who had Alzheimerâs and was at the fag end of her life â¤ď¸
Rarely in my career I have seen people take a break to chill somewhere on a beach in Bali
People take career breaks
- to support their family
- to take care of their mental health from a toxic workplace
- to support their siblings have a career which they desired
- to raise their kids as a supporting mother
But like most people , my friend was also judged and not allowed to join the work place after a career of 9 years for a break of 9 months
And when he got the chance , he became the employee of the month 4 times in 7 months
People who have the courage to leave a steady pay check for the dreams and well being of their families
Also treat their workplaces as sanctuary
They should be celebrated not judged
They definitely know how to Build a life , if not a resume â¤ď¸
And thatâs all that matters
Employers who donât allow people to be part of a work force after they take a career break are NOT employers but places in hell
And in the cycle of life , these are the companies who die first
Thatâs how karma works â¤ď¸

Disney+ Hotstar yesterday handled 25 million concurrent users on their platform for India vs Pak match
Just to put this into perspective the scale of the feat
Flipkart has approx: 100 million monthly active users
DAU/MAU ( Daily active users / monthly active users ) : 10% for e-commerce on average as analysed by mixpanel
So approx DAU Flipkart: 10 to 12 million
% concurrent users at any point of time : 20% of DAU
% concurrent users at any point of time: 2-3 million
Hotstar just handled 11x more concurrent traffic than Flipkart ( which is Indias largest e-commerce platform )
Now if this isn't a product engineering feat I don't know what is

P.S : All numbers are approximations and can vary directionally. This computation is to give you guys a sense of the impact

I knew a friend in Kota who like me cracked JEE in 2011 and got a 2K something rank
While most of us in this rank range , struggled to get into any IIT , no matter the branch because the tag mattered to most families , students
For most of us
No matter what our inclination was , no matter what made most sense , we ended up choosing a branch which we disliked
Whereas this friend used to tell me , if he gets through NDA , he would become a commando and that's his dream
He got through and joined NDA , whereas most of us joined IIT as usual
13 years later , he won a gallatary award for his operations in Kashmir
Whereas most of us are stuck in a job we dislike , in a culture which we hate
We maybe earning 2x of him but the happiness on his face to do something he wanted was special
Not everyone of us gets to do what we want and not everyone has wealth as the core anchor point of life
Unfortunately , in the midst of herd philosophy , we forget who we are
In the end of life to stay happy , we don't seek wealth as much as we seek meaning :)
And meaning is where our action is our own reward , for him to protect his country was enough

And he makes 3 lakh for a 30-min appearance of his dogs at events
That dog earns like a Bollywood star.

During the devastating 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attacks in November 2008,
Mr. Ratan Tata showed the world what true leadership and compassion look like.
The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, a symbol of his vision, was scarred by terror, but Tataâs response went beyond rebuilding walls â he focused on rebuilding lives.
Shrikant Khandekar, co-founder of afaqs!, shared a powerful account of Tataâs response,
Saying, âThe Tatas not only took care of all the employees and the victims but made sure that even the vendors, shopkeepers, and those indirectly associated with the hotel were also compensated.
Ratan Tata personally visited each family affected, whether an employee, a guest, or a vendor.â
This was Ratan Tata: a leader who put people above profits, who turned tragedy into resilience.
His actions left an indelible mark, reflecting a legacy defined not just by business success but by an extraordinary depth of humanity.
Today, as we honor his memory, we remember a man who stood by his people in their darkest hour â a void that can never be filled.
A man who stood for humanity and resilience, he deserves nothing less than the Bharat Ratna.
