People are losing their jobs.

Students are struggling with their graduation.

Migrants are walking 100s of kilometres to be home.

Doctors are saving strangers and video calling their kids.

Patients are spending days and weeks in hospitals, alone.

Families are mourning the loss of their loved ones.

Souls are leaving their bodies, with no one to hug one last time.

And us?

Look at us.

Whining about “getting bored” at home.

Crying over a slower internet.

Bothered by not having enough movies on Netflix.

Craving to hit the gym suddenly.

Needing that white-mermaid-cup latte.

Hoarding on toilet paper and soap.

Wanting the fresh air for our soul.

Stepping out on the 5th day, because “I’ve been in for 4 whole days!”

While we crib over how difficult our life is, there are people out there who only wish they could be home.

People who wish they could be safe.

People who wish they could hold their family. At least one last time.

And us?

We have what these people wish for.

Cherish it. Stay home.

I won a summer internship with KPMG Ireland!!!

I won this internship through the Employability Award in Trinity College Dublin.

The Employability Award had 3 levels over 6 months; each with individual assessments:

Level 1:

- Shared reference of completing 320 hours of part-time work
- Attended Career Readiness workshops in Trinity
- Attended workshops at KPMG and PwC

Level 2:
- Attended a CV review session with KPMG
- Submitted “reflective careers assessment”— an essay about my professional development

Level 3:
- Submitted a presentation to KPMG, recommending online marketing solutions for their client
- Shortlisted as 1 of 5 finalists for a 10-minute pitch at KPMG
- Won the pitch... bringing me a summer internship and €500!

I am so excited about this!

Honestly, this year, I hadn’t applied to a single internship. I was ready to take summer as it comes.

And now, I have won an internship with one of the Big 4s, KPMG!

Things work out in mysterious ways, don’t they?

P.S. Do you want access to my pitch? Comment “YES” and I’ll share it with you!

P.P.S. And will you succeed? Yes you will indeed! (98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed.)

Are you making this mistake on LinkedIn?

A few days ago, I saw an error in a LinkedIn post.

I sent this DM to the writer:

“Hey, I’ve been reading your recent posts, they are good! Just one suggestion: don’t use ‘shall.’ Write ‘I will’, or ‘I am.’

‘Shall’ is an awkward word to use in most instances, so avoid it almost everywhere. Hope this helps :)”

His response?
“That’s a great observation Shreya! Thanks for pointing it out. I’m happy you like my content :)”

This is my personal rule:
Never share the error as a public comment. Instead, DM the writer.

Why?

Because:

- LinkedIn posts take a lot of time and effort to create
- Errors are a natural part of the writing process
- Most of us are exposing our vulnerable aspect in writing.

A LinkedIn post is beyond its errors.

And writers are beyond their writing flaws.

Remember: kindness towards each other’s creativity will make the world creative and kind.

So, don’t make the mistake of not being kind on LinkedIn.

Oh, and if someone does comment about an error: thank them for it.

How would you prefer to know about your writing errors?

I recruit writers secretly.

That’s right.

I have been growing my team.

Slowly.
Steadily.
Secretly.

Many new writers message me for guidance.

I give them advice and help them out.

They thank me.

The conversation stops.

BUT...

The connection doesn’t stop.

I then follow their posts for a few weeks.

I check the content they are putting out.

I check whether they are improving.

I check whether they are following my advice.

I look for skill, growth & passion.

And I find that... in some people.

So I message them.

“Would you like to write for me?”

And they almost instantly say yes.

That’s how I recruit writers.

Lesson?

Put your best work forward.
You never know who’s watching. [Maybe I am!]

Psst... don’t worry about experience. I do my best to support new writers. If you have the skill & passion you have a shot!
I was invited to speak at the prestigious St. Xavier's College, Mumbai yesterday!

“Making Your First $1000 as a Student Freelancer”

400+ students registered for the 150 available seats!

It was a full-house of students from different courses and years of study… and most of them hadn’t heard of “freelancing” before.

It’s always such a pleasure to show someone the new endless possibilities of running your own low-risk business on the internet.

Glad I could introduce so many 20-something-year-olds to it :)

And then, what made this session even more special was that my best friend is a Xavier’s alumni!

She joined the audience too and was so excited that I get to do this! I feel lucky to have friends who’ve known me and supported me from day 1… when neither of us saw any of THIS coming :)

Thank you to E-Cell & Skill Hub, St. Xavier's College, Mumbai for inviting me, and to everyone who joined!

Looking forward to many more such sessions and talks soon (DM me if you’d like to invite me for one!)

21 February 2018.

I checked my email.

New email from Trinity College Dublin.

“Congratulations on your offer!”

This was it: I was selected by one of the best colleges for English and Philosophy.

My dad ran around the house, screaming “YES YOU GOT IT!!!”

My mom kept asking “What happened???”

Then both of them jumped around the house.

They shrieked, “WE KNEW IT!”

I was the one selected, yet they both were so much more happier than me!

It’s been over 2 years since that day.

And at times like these, when I feel that everything’s crashing down...

I just think about the times when I made it...

And how happy my parents were when I made it.

It’s memories like these,
Of the glow on my parents’ faces,
That keep me going in tough times.

What keeps you going?

P.S. My parents are my backbone. Still are. They’re the only group that will support you if you score zero or you score 40.
