Itโ€™s been 2 months at Microsoft!๐Ÿฅณ
So, I am celebrating this occasion by sharing my interview experience with you!

๐Ÿ“Round 1 (Coding test)

I solved 2 medium-hard level DSA questions in C++ language.

๐Ÿ“Round 2 (DSA)

The interviewer gave 1 DSA problem and asked me questions based on its time and space complexity.

๐Ÿ“Round 3 (System Design)

In this round, I wrote an LLD application and explained my trade-offs.

๐Ÿ“Round 4 (Tech + Managerial)

There were 3 rounds in which they asked me about my previous experience and some behavioral questions.

If you are preparing for interviews at these top companies, I highly recommend that you seek proper guidance from Day 1.

You can also seek assistance from professionals at Microsoft and other leading tech companies through Preplaced. They can help you prepare for each round by conducting mock interviews and boosting your confidence.

90 days to go from zero to placement-readyโ€”letโ€™s make it happen!

Here's a week-by-week roadmap to help you get placement-ready in just 3 months.

โœ…Month 1: Build a Strong Foundation

๐ŸŽฏWeek 1: Data Structures Basics
Focus on arrays, strings, and linked lists. Understand operations like traversal and searching. Practice on LeetCode, aiming to solve problems in 30 minutes or less.

๐ŸŽฏWeek 2: Recursion & Sorting Algorithms
Master recursion and sorting algorithms like merge, quick, and heap sort. Focus on understanding time complexity.

๐ŸŽฏWeek 3: Stacks & Queues
Learn about stacks, queues, and their applications. Practice solving problems using these data structures.

๐ŸŽฏWeek 4: Trees & Binary Search Trees (BSTs)
Focus on tree operations and traversals (inorder, preorder, postorder). Practice intermediate-level problems involving trees and BSTs.

โœ…Month 2: Advanced Problem Solving & System Design

๐ŸŽฏWeek 5: Graphs (Basics)
Learn graph traversal techniques like BFS and DFS. Practice problems on basic graph traversal.

๐ŸŽฏWeek 6: Dynamic Programming (Basics)
Understand memoization and tabulation in dynamic programming. Solve beginner DP problems such as Fibonacci and coin change.

๐ŸŽฏWeek 7: Advanced Graphs & DP Problems
Learn shortest path algorithms (Dijkstra, Bellman-Ford) and solve advanced DP problems.

๐ŸŽฏWeek 8: System Design Basics
Study system design fundamentals like scalability and load balancing. Research and break down simple system designs.

โœ…Month 3: Mock Interviews & Resume Preparation

๐ŸŽฏWeek 9: Mock Interviews (Data Structures Focus)
Begin mock interviews focusing on DSA topics. Use platforms like LeetCode and Pramp to improve your problem-solving under pressure.

๐ŸŽฏWeek 10: Resume Building & Behavioral Prep
Polish your resume, highlight key projects, and prepare for HR interviews using the STAR method for behavioral questions.

๐ŸŽฏWeek 11: Advanced Mock Interviews (System Design)
Practice system design interviews, working on designing simple systems like URL shorteners.

๐ŸŽฏWeek 12: Final Revision & Mock Interviews
Review all core concepts and take final mock interviews to ensure you're fully prepared for the real placement interviews.

By following this roadmap, youโ€™ll be placement-ready by the end of 3 months, mastering essential technical skills, interview techniques, and resume prep!

A few years ago, I was working at a service-based company, and feeling stuck at the job ๐Ÿ˜“ I wanted to transition into a product-based role at a company like Microsoft, Amazon etc

But with a full time job I struggled to manage both and started to burn out.

My first interview didnโ€™t go well, and it shattered my confidence. I realized I had neglected the basics, so I revisited fundamental data structures and system design, using platforms like Leetcode

A mentorโ€™s advice changed my approach โ†’ โ€œDonโ€™t just practiceโ€”understand why.โ€

This mindset helped me break down problems and focus on improving my weaknesses. I also began doing mock interviews, which helped me refine my problem-solving and communication skills.

After months of consistent preparation and hardwork , I landed offers from companies like SAMSUNG and Microsoft. The journey wasnโ€™t easy, but persistence, preparation, and guidance were the keys to my success.

โšก My Tips ๐Ÿ‘‡

Start Early & Stay Consistent.
Master the Basics
Do Mock Interviews
Learn from Mistakes
Seek Guidance

If youโ€™re preparing for your own transition, keep going, consistency will get you to your dream job

Now, If you want a little help with your career transition Iโ€™d suggest you check Bosscoder Academy

3 job switches in 4 years ๐Ÿš€

In the process, I discovered plenty of myths about job switching.

โŒ Switching jobs frequently will make you look unreliable.
โœ… In tech, varied experience is valued and seen as an asset.

โŒ Switching industries means starting over.
โœ… Skills like adaptability, problem-solving, and technical skills are transferable.

โŒ Only candidates from top-tier companies or colleges get noticed.
โœ… Real-world skills, portfolios, and networking matter more than elite backgrounds.

When I switched careers, I didnโ€™t have it all figured out. But I leapt anyway. I took help from those who made similar transitionsโ€”mentors, and peers.

So, if you want to switch careers, thereโ€™s no perfect moment than now. Trust yourself and connect with experienced engineers who can help you with career transitions. ๐Ÿ’ช

As someone who went from TCS to Samsung to Microsoft,
Here's what I learned:

โŒ ๐€๐ฏ๐จ๐ข๐:
โ€“ Skipping core concepts like OS, DBMS, and networking.
โ€“ Ignoring mock interviews and going in unprepared.
โ€“ Overloading yourself with too many resources.

โœ… ๐ƒ๐จ ๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐ฌ ๐ข๐ง๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐š๐:
โ€“ โ Start with a structured roadmap: clear the basics, then move to advanced topics.
โ€“ Focus on problem-solving skills with DSA practice (easy to medium first, then hard).
โ€“ Learn System Design, even if theyโ€™re not part of your current role.
โ€“ Build 1-2 standout projects to show your ability to scale solutions.
โ€“ Highlight transferable skills (e.g., debugging, teamwork) for the role.
โ€“ Take mock interviews with experienced SDEs whoโ€™ve made this transition.

I know many struggle with tech interviews despite years of experience as PBCs focus more on problem-solving, which can be tough to master.

But now you can easily connect 1:1 with PBC or MAANG engineers who will help you improve your skills and crack interviews.
