In HR, we have to be kind but direct.
We need to be empathetic and considerate.
But we also need to be straightforward and clear.
That balance can be hard to strike but I always offer the reminder that without being direct, especially in HR, we are not being kind.
Humans need to know the facts. They need to know the reasoning behind decisions that impact them. They need to hear the difficult feedback so they can grow.
It is up to us to embody both.
It is up to us to help the leaders in our organization understand the importance of embodying both.
