In 1979, our first ever diesel car rolled off the production line, now, 45 years later, we watch as the last one does the same.

In early February, our colleagues in Ghent built their last diesel-powered car, a V60. And just the other day, our plant in Torslanda saw its last XC90 diesel car roll off the production line.

These events mark a huge milestone in our company’s 97-year long history. With this move, we’re taking a giant step toward our ambitions of becoming a fully electric car maker, as well as achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040.

However, our electrification journey doesn’t only include our electric vehicles, but also our strong portfolio of plug-ins and mild hybrids creating a bridge to the future.

This is the end of an era, but we can’t wait for our electrifying future.

Our engineers have been putting together cutting-edge technology to create a beautiful and well-integrated car: our new, all-electric Volvo EX90 SUV, which will continue to improve over-the-air and over time.

But the work isn’t finished once the car is put together; we’ve also spent many days and nights pushing our new flagship to its limits.

The EX90 has gone through intense testing to help ensure it works in all temperatures and climates: from the freezing cold of Northern Sweden to the scorching hot Arizona desert, as well as all the sweeping corners of our test tracks here in West Sweden.

We have placed high demands on our new flagship, making sure it works for real people, in real life.
