I went to university when I was 19 and Lydia was 1.

💰I had limited financial support so I had to work part-time to support us.

🚍 I had to get 2 buses to uni every day, with her and her pushchair, so she could go to nursery and I could go to class.

📖 I had to study when she was sleeping and my fellow students were partying.

I had to prove all the people who told me I couldn’t do it, that I could.

This morning I dropped my daughter at the airport for a 3 month solo trip to save monkeys in Costa Rica 🐒

She’s only 21 and has been travelling without us since she was 15, when she spent a month in Tanzania.

It’s so hard watching her go, but I couldn’t be prouder of her. She’s strong, confident and incredibly brave, and already knows her purpose in life is to save animals.

So whilst I spend my day quietly sobbing into a cushion, let this be a reminder to live your life with purpose and follow your dreams 💭

There is no Plan B.

This week, my name is Peter.

Why? (And no it’s not because I’m pretending to be my husband!)

I want to help focus attention on this shocking fact: in the Netherlands, there are more CEOs called Peter than CEOs who are women.

Such a stunning lack of diversity at the top simply shouldn’t exist. Women are structurally underrepresented in executive positions, while diversity at the top is proven to boost profits.

It’s time for this to change! That’s why I’m calling on all women in my network to speak out on this issue.
