I almost didn't apply for the job I have now. I wasn't a perfect fit.

But as I read the job description, this statement stuck out:

“We realize applying for jobs can feel daunting at times. We don’t expect you to check all the qualification boxes and encourage you to apply if you have experience in some of the areas.“

So I went for it. ✅

Four months later, I'm excited to wake up for work every day.

Don't let your potential go to waste because you don't feel ready. Feel the fear and go for it anyway!

5 red flags you can interview for before accepting a new role:

1️⃣ The team is hiring for one role but expects the output of 5.

↳ What are some ways that success will be measured in the first 90 days? The first year?
↳ What are the most immediate projects that need to be addressed?

2️⃣ There isn’t a clear growth plan for the role and/or the company doesn’t provide opportunities for growth & development.

↳ Can you share an example of an employee who grew within the company?
↳ What‘s the company’s stance on professional development for employees?

3️⃣ There isn’t a clear, comprehensive onboarding process.

↳ What would the first 30 days look like in this role?

4️⃣ The CEO/leadership team doesn’t value feedback from their team.

↳ Can you share a recent example where you, or the leadership team, incorporated feedback from an employee?

5️⃣ For remote roles: Remote employees are excluded.

↳ What methods & tools does the team use to stay connected and collaborative?

An interview is a two-way street. Figure out your dealbreakers, then ask questions that’ll help you make an informed decision. 🙌🏽
I wasn’t just looking for a great job. I was looking for a great manager.

Some of the green flags I looked for during interviews:

✅ They have a clear understanding of the role, why they’re hiring, and the impact it will have on the company

✅ They give you their full attention during the call (as much as they can). Slack notifications are muted or ignored, they’re not checking their email, etc.

✅ They encourage you to interview them and learn more about the company

✅ They value their team’s professional development and growth

✅ When it’s your turn to ask questions, they are transparent and honest. (This one can be hard to gauge, but it’s a good sign if they’re willing & eager to answer the hard questions.)

✅ They encourage a healthy work/life balance (for themselves and their team)

✅ They own their mistakes and their strengths

I start my new job on Monday. And one of the reasons I accepted the offer is because of the person I’ll be reporting to. 🙌🏽

It’s so important to find a supportive manager who will give you opportunities to learn, grow, and level up in your career. Interview your potential manager as much as they’re interviewing you!

I left a job that I loved.

After putting in my notice, I shut my computer and had a good cry.

I knew, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that it was the right decision. I felt stagnant, and I had recently realized that taking my career to the next level required a move.

But it was still hard. And it didn't immediately get easier when I started a new role.

Years later, I'm proud of younger Brianna for doing the hard thing.

It's okay to be afraid of what the next chapter holds for you. You unlock a new level of confidence when you learn to embrace being uncomfortable.

I'm opening my calendar to anyone seeking a job in marketing.

I've been unemployed and laid off before. And I've been an entry-level marketer trying to convince a hiring manager to give me a chance. It's hard, to say the least.

Every Friday through August, I've blocked out 2.5 hours to lead mock interviews. I5 minutes of interviewing followed by 10 minutes of feedback, and I'll do everything I can to help you.

I'm not a recruiter or a career coach. But I:

• Have been a hiring manager for entry- and mid-level marketers
• Received job offers for the last 15 jobs I interviewed for
• Have been lucky enough to work with recruiters who gave me advice I use to this day

It's time to pay it forward! This is primarily for marketers (entry-level, mid-level, and anyone looking to transition into marketing).

Inspired by 🌎 Josh Norris 🙏🇺🇦, who's doing the same for SaaS job seekers!

I'll drop the Calendly link in the comments. 💛

Repeat after me.

Burnout is not a badge of honor.
Burnout is not a badge of honor.
Burnout is not a badge of honor.

Life has its busy seasons, but you don't get a trophy for sacrificing sleep, mental health, or the things that bring you joy.

I’ve got a million things to do today. But I’ve committed to a midday workout with my trainer, and I’m not canceling.

Consider this your Tuesday reminder: Work hard, but make sure you rest and recharge. ✌🏽
I've been told I'm a job hopper.

I've also been told that I lack focus, that I'm a risky hire, and even that I'm lazy.

Changing jobs is hard. Sometimes you're leaving to escape a toxic situation. Maybe the company shut down. Sometimes you leave to level up and earn more money. Whatever the reason, it's never an easy decision.

During my most recent job search, I evaluated my past experiences and focused on finding a role that would align with my long-term career goals. I, for one, was sick of moving around. 😐

Varied backgrounds and short tenures don't automatically make someone a bad employee. It depends on their character and the reasons why they left.

Don't discount someone who's learned from their past experiences and is trying to avoid making the same mistakes again.
