I used to pride myself on taking vacation and being connected. All the time.

I would get an email, and bam, send a response. Moments Later.

Surely the company I worked for would be impressed.

See me as the hard worker that I am!

Even on vacation- making sure I was connected, and available within moments if needed.

I thought this would position me as a workaholic and set me apart. If being a top producer wasn’t enough.

Let me be clear. This is not a vacation. This is called remote work.

Please, If you take a vacation. Sign the …. off.

If I could go back in time, I’d throw my computer into the nearest pool, and enjoy my daiquiri…

Because life is too short. And after all that, years later….

I was still furloughed.

The candidate accepted your bare minimum offer.

You are ecstatic! You know they could have gotten way more for what the market typically pays for this type of role.

You saved the company money.

But did you really?

You now have become a bullseye in this market.

If you are paying under market for the role… Recruiters are going to find out about it.

Me being one of them ✔️

The candidate that accepted the offer is also going to find out they are being paid under market.

It doesn’t save you money.

In fact! it costs you money. Just because they might accept it, doesnt mean you should offer it!

You now have an employee getting paid under market. It only takes a couple of calls and inmails from competitors for them to realise it.

You didn’t win. You lost.

Share your views!

Make competitive offers, even if they would take less.

My friend just announced his promotion to Vice President.

Not long ago, we were laid off together.
He waited for a call to return, that never came.

I urged him to move on and take control.

He’d been loyal to a company, that never truly valued him.

Hoping for recognition he’d never receive.

Now, his dream has come true elsewhere.

Everything he wanted but would have never gotten.

When a company lets you go, thank them.
They’re clearing the path for your true potential.

Their loss becomes your greatest opportunity.

“A bottle of water can be .50 cents at the supermarket. $2 at the gym. $3 at the movies and $6 on a plane. Same water.

Only thing that changed it’s value was the place… so the next time you feel your work is nothing, maybe you’re at the wrong place”.

Congratulations to my friend!

To anyone that has been let go, laid off…
May this pave the way, for all your dreams to come true.

PS. Is your lay-off a blessing?

Employer: “We would like to offer you $100,000. We know how important it is for you to hit that six-figure threshold.“

Jobseeker: “That's a very generous offer, but can I continue to work remotely?“

Employer: “No, this role requires being on-site Monday through Friday.“

What flashes through your mind?
✔ Freshing up the wardrobe and return to office clothes.
✔ Early mornings and rush hour traffic to beat the hour-long commute.
✔ Rushing from work to pick up the kids from carpool.
✔ Missing out on your son's basketball team due to the commute.
✔ Packing lunches to avoid expensive daily lunches.
✔ Finding parking or walking from a distant lot. Road rage.
✔ Cancelling the gym membership, impossible to squeeze it in anymore.

Jobseeker: “Thank you for your kind offer, but I must decline. While the pay raise is tempting, the sacrifices would be too great.“

Fully on-site roles are facing increasing rejection, and here's why:
65% of workers globally want to work remotely full-time, while 32% prefer a hybrid model. (Forbes Advisor, 2023)

Nearly two-thirds (63%) of professionals would take a pay cut for remote work. (Fortune, 2022)

74% of job seekers prioritize remote options in 2024. (Remote.co, 2024)
Flexibility is the new currency.

The number one question I get daily: “Do you have any remote jobs?“
It's not just about money, it's about time.

Remote jobs are insanely competitive, everyone wants them, and they're shrinking. This might be why you're not getting feedback.

Here is what you need to do to conquer the remote market:

We all deserve a life outside of our work. And remote jobs and flexibility are our best options to get that.  Cheers to our furry (non-crated) coworkers, sweatpants, and never missing a scrimmage.

P.S. Please repost to push this point through to those employers who desperately need to hear it. Why do you value remote work?

If I could go back in time I would chase amazing leaders, not companies.

You could work at the best company ever but it you are stuck under a micromanager you most likely won’t be happy- regardless of the company name.

We research like crazy the companies we are going to work for- but barely think twice about the manager we are working under.

Big mistake. Great leaders impact your career more than any company name ever will.

Agree? Share your views, and Tag an amazing leader below it’s time to celebrate them.
