How to Tackle Workplace Bullying in 5 Steps:

Special thanks to Rob for the image and thoughtful insights!

In our pursuit of a healthy work environment, we must confront an uncomfortable truth: bullying doesn't end in the schoolyard. It often persists in professional settings, disguised as leadership or authority. Let's unpack this critical issue:

Workplace bullies often hide behind:
Prestigious titles
Hierarchical power
โ†ณ Supposed โ€œtough leadershipโ€œ
Power doesn't grant the right to demean others.

Bullying behavior impacts:
Employee morale
Team productivity
Company culture
One toxic leader can poison an entire organization.

Watch for patterns of:
Constant criticism
Undermining efforts
Isolating team members
Bullying isn't always overt; it can be insidious.

Create a culture where:
Respectful behavior is the norm
Reporting mechanisms exist
Leadership is held accountable
No one is above treating others with dignity.

True leaders:
Uplift their teams
Foster psychological safety
Lead by example, not fear
Strong leaders build others up, not tear them down.

Remember: A truly successful workplace thrives on mutual respect and empowerment, not intimidation.

Leaders, ask yourselves: Are you fostering an environment of growth or fear?

Let's commit to creating workplaces where everyone feels valued, respected, and safe.

How are you actively combating workplace bullying in your organization?

The 80/20 principle in 8 ways:

1. Health: 80% eating, 20% exercising

2. Wealth: 80% skills, 20% strategies

3. Relationships: 80% listening, 20% talking

4. Learning: 80% practice, 20% theory

5. Productivity: 80% focus, 20% tools

6. Happiness: 80% gratitude, 20% desires

7. Success: 80% failures, 20% wins

8. Impact: 80% serving, 20% selling

Focus on the vital few to unlock the incredible many.

Your body is made in the kitchen, not just the gym.

Fuel your body with whole, nutritious foods and you'll see better results than just focusing on exercise alone.

Having the best strategies in the world won't matter if you don't have the skills to execute them.

Focus on mastering your craft and developing your skills to achieve long-term wealth.

Being a good listener is key to building strong relationships.

People want to feel heard, understood and valued.

Take time to actively listen to others rather than just waiting to talk.

Learning by doing is often more effective than just reading or studying.

Take action and practice what you want to learn, then reflect on what worked and what didn't.

Tools can help improve productivity, but they won't make up for a lack of focus.

Eliminate distractions and prioritize your most important tasks to get the most impactful work done.

Gratitude breeds happiness. Focus on appreciating what you have and the people in your life.

Happiness isn't about attaining everything you want, it's about finding contentment in the present moment.

Failure is a crucial component of success.

It teaches you what doesn't work, helps you persevere and builds resilience.

Failing often leads to valuable lessons that ultimately improve your chances of succeeding.

To create an impact, focus on serving others.

The 80/20 ratio applies because:

80% of impact comes from how you serve others.

20% of impact comes from selling/promoting your product or service.

Remember that the 80/20 principle is not a strict rule, but a guideline to help focus your efforts on what truly matters.

Real leaders surround themselves with people who challenge them. Here are 6 reasons why:

Yes people are passive and don't challenge the status quo.
Leaders need active thinkers, questioning assumptions, and providing new perspectives.

This encourages growth and helps businesses adapt and improve.

Leaders need to make decisions based on a holistic view of the business.

Having people who challenge them exposes them to new ideas, reduces blind spots and allows them to see potential problems before they arise.

Challenging ideas fosters innovation and creativity.

Leaders may have brilliant ideas but without challenges, they may not be fully realized.

Having people who challenge them can push them to think outside the box and create innovative solutions.

Yes people may agree with the leader even if they know deep down it's the wrong decision.

Having people who challenge them keeps leaders accountable to their decisions and ensures they are making the right choices for the business.

Leaders can build trust by actively listening to individuals who challenge them.

When trust is established, individuals are more open to sharing their ideas and concerns.

This opens up new lines of communication and helps leaders make informed decisions and create a culture of transparency.

Surrounding oneself with people from diverse backgrounds, experiences, and viewpoints ensures a range of ideas, fosters inclusivity, and promotes representation.

Leaders who prioritize diversity in their team are more likely to create a culture of innovation, cultivate success and create an environment for all employees to thrive.

- Ensure everyone is clear on goals and expectations

Effective communication and collaboration enable teams to work more efficiently and effectively toward a common goal.

To get what you want, you must always do the hard things first. The 6 actions you can take today:

1) Make the difficult phone call.

The one you've been delaying or dreading.

Don't just think about it, make it happen.

You'll immediately feel better knowing it's done.

2) Exercise.

It's easy to skip or delay your workout.

But if you want something that most people don't have, you must do what most people don't do.

Make working out a priority.

No excuses.

3) Work on your least favorite task.

The task you've been avoiding because it's boring or uncomfortable.

Focus on it for at least 20 minutes, then take a break.

Repeat until it's complete.

4) Have a difficult conversation.

The conversation you've been avoiding.

Be honest, direct, and respectful.

The longer you wait, the harder it will become.

5) Learn something new.

Stop procrastinating on that course or new skill you've been interested in.

Spend 20-30 minutes researching it today.

Start learning today!

6) Set a challenging goal.

A goal that scares you, that feels impossible.

Write it down.

Then make a plan and start working towards it.

It's the hard things that lead to the greatest achievements.

Remember, if it doesn't challenge you, it won't change you.

The quickest way to succeed is to start now and figure it out later. Use the โ€œReady, Fire, Aimโ€œ approach:

1. You have an idea.

You research.

You plan.

You research more.

You outline.

You research again.

You plan again.

And nothing happens.

That's because your idea is never going to be perfect.

2. Perfection is impossible.

Attempts at perfection are just your mind stalling for time.

And while you're stalling, others are executing.

3. Life moves fast.

And the best way to keep up is to be in motion yourself.

The quicker and more often you can execute on your ideas, the easier it will be to make progress and stay ahead of the curve.

4. This is where the โ€œReady, Fire, Aimโ€œ approach comes in.

Stop waiting for the perfect conditions.

Stop waiting for the perfect idea.

Stop waiting for perfect timing.

5. Just start.

Take action, even if it's imperfect.

Get feedback and refine from there.

This approach allows for more iterations, faster.

6. Iteration is key.

By constantly iterating and fine-tuning, you can quickly improve your idea until it's ready to take on the world.

And while others are still waiting for the conditions to be perfect, you'll already be miles ahead.

To summarize:

Perfection is impossible
Constant iteration is key
โ€ข โ€œReady, Fire, Aimโ€œ allows for more iterations, faster
Progress beats perfection

Don't be afraid to shoot first and ask questions later.
