The Most Dangerous Advice You’ll Ever Get In Business
(Why It Will Ruin You 🤔 ) “In business, play like you practice.”

You’ve heard it a thousand times. From coaches. From CEOs. From LinkedIn influencers on here...

It sounds good. Feels intuitive. And is dead wrong.

Because in reality, business is not a game. It's war.

And in war, you don't play like you practice. You practice like your life depends on it. Because it does.

The truth about business is this:

It’s messy. Unpredictable. Unfair.

You think you've got it figured out. And suddenly, the rules change.🤓 I see this all.the.time. Owners come to me and want to sell because they were on fire pre-Covid, but now their business is chugging along but no where near where it once was...the value today yesterday is gone. This is why you need a plan.

Your best people quit. Investors pull out. Competitors copy you overnight. Covid disrupts the market.

If you play in business like you do in practice, here's what happens:

You get comfortable. Start slacking. Ignore the fires until they burn you down.

No. To thrive in business, you must practice like you're in the arena. With live ammo. With adrenaline pumping. With no safety net.

To practice like the wolf is at your door. Because it is.

Here are the 3 rules to practice by if you want to survive:

1. Set impossibly high standards. Then exceed them. Mediocrity is what kills companies faster than any competitor.

2. Pressure test everything. Your strategy. Your team. Yourself. If it cracks, fix it or drop it.

3. Overprepare, then overdeliver. Sandbag expectations, then blow them away. Disappointment kills. Delight creates evangelists.

Business is not a game. It's a jungle.

You don't rise to the occasion. You fall to your level of preparation.

So prepare like you're going to war. And when war comes, you'll be ready. 💥
