1️⃣ Around 80% of ocean plastic pollution originates from just 1,000 rivers globally.
2️⃣ Excessive nitrogen releases from farming and urbanization lead to algal blooms and significant losses of plant and fish species in rivers and lakes. This disrupts entire aquatic ecosystems.
3️⃣ Residues of medicines end up polluting rivers. Our waterways are becoming pharmacological soups.
4️⃣ Every day, 2 million tons of sewage and industrial and agricultural waste are discharged into the world’s water.
5️⃣ Approximately 40% of the lakes in America are too polluted for fishing, aquatic life, or swimming.
Progress is too slow.
We are better than that.
