The #1 reason for forced return to office:
Bosses (micromanagers) don’t trust you.
and #2:
Bosses believe that if you’re in the office, you’re productive.
Here’s what Marten Mickos, HackerOne CEO, commented on one of my previous posts:
“People often ask me how you know people are really working if they are not in the office. I respond that it is far easier to fake it in the office. You dress well, cheerfully greet the boss(es) always, attend all meetings and ask smartass questions, keep your desk suitably messy, frequently lament about your workload, pretend to celebrate ‘wins’. People will automatically believe you are productive although you are not.
But when you work from home, only the output of your work can demonstrate that you are working.”
Trust your remote employees.
Measure what matters. Not being or looking busy, but individual output and overall team-driven outcomes.
