You are not obligated to associate with people who are making your life worse.

It’s okay to surround yourself with people who are helping you be better and to shy away from people who are willing to drag you down.

You’re not obligated to associate with people who are trying to damage the structure of your being.

Move away from people like that.

If you can think, and speak, and write, you are absolutely deadly.

Learn to write because writing is thinking formalized.⁣

First, you need a problem. A problem that grips you so that you feel a desire to investigate. The next thing you need to do is have something to say about the issue. And reading is brilliant for that. You should read as much as you can about how to address the problem you have.⁣
⁣
Now you have new information at your disposal, and it’s your job to elegantly formulate that - while being precise in your word choice. You then organize your sentences correctly. And your paragraphs. Hopefully, now the whole thing is coherent enough to make sense.⁣

While this is happening, you are sharpening your tools and integrating your personality at the highest and most abstract level of organization. You’re learning to think. And you improve your ability to think by learning to write.

If you are a competent writer, speaker, and communicator, you have all of the authority and competence that there is.⁣

This is the issue with 'White Privilege'.

I think the idea of white privilege is absolutely reprehensible. And it's not because white people aren't privileged.

We have all sorts of privileges, and most people have privileges of all sorts. I would say you should be grateful for your privileges and work to deserve them.

But the idea that you can target an ethnic group with a collective crime, regardless of the specific innocence or guilt of the constituent elements of that group?

There is absolutely nothing that's more racist than that.

Don’t avoid small problems that you know are there.

It’s worthwhile to go and find the dragon in its lair instead of waiting for it to come and eat you. Especially when you also add the idea that if you find the dragon in its lair, you might find it when it’s a baby instead of a full-fledged monster that is definitely going to take you down.

Don’t avoid small problems that you know are there. Face them because they’ll grow into big problems all by themselves.

Imagine the tax department sends you a notification. You owe them $300. Well, you know, that’s annoying. Maybe you don’t even want to open the letter. Or perhaps you just put it on the shelf. But that damn thing doesn’t just sit there like a piece of paper on the shelf.

You ignore that for five or six years; it’s going to become attached to all sorts of horrible things. And if you ignore it long enough, it’s going to turn into something completely unlike the little piece of paper that it’s written on. And many, many problems in life are like that.

You’ll see that they pop their ugly little head out. You might want to turn away, and you might not want to think about it, which is the easiest way of turning away; you don’t attend to it.

As a long-term strategy — it’s dismal.

Do you want to be illiterate? Do you want to be inarticulate?

You're going to have to negotiate. You're going to have to lead. You're going to have to convince. You have to be able to think. And you have to be highly literate to do that.

Jocko Willink—he's a good example. That guy's like 3 feet thick, and he's as tough as a bloody boot. He's up at four in the morning every day. He's one literate person.

The great men I've met, they're unbelievably literate. They are compelling when they talk. People listen because they know what they're talking about. And they speak with authority.

As you get more successful in the global hierarchy of 100 million people, the 200 people you compare yourself to changes.

The fundamental reason you should understand personality psychology is that you are a person who is situated in a social world. You have a personality that must contend with other personalities. Learning about what personality is and how it functions can help you understand yourself and those around you. It can help you cooperate more harmoniously with others; your family, friends, and work environment are all places where you must cooperate with others.
