Great news update:

Been on the job hunt almost 3 months now. My recent social media outreach efforts, as well as some targeted networking, have succeeded in landing me a few real conversations/interviews with humans.

No job yet, but exciting prospects. And at least it's better than silence or auto-generated emails. Really enjoying actually talking to humans instead of computers. Thank you to those humans!

Hope this continues. :)
Quick personal update:

5 months now unemployed. I've been pursuing a variety of projects (many away from the keyboard), trying to find some traction, while being disappointed and unable to find any employment that looks like a fit.

I still would strongly prefer to be full time employed versus various contractual or other efforts, because of the need for stable salary and health insurance (for my kids). I've had to exhaust a lot of savings and run up credit debt over these 5 months, so it's quite a hole to dig out of.

But, I'm excited to share that recently I've joined efforts with Yonatan F. to help co-found a startup in the Local-First Software space: Vella.

We're working to re-define the way apps are designed and built, specifically putting ownership and control of data back in the hands of users. We're starting with how we define and share our identity in apps. And we're building a really compelling and useful consumer app to demonstrate the vision.

Very hopeful this takes off! If these things seem interesting to you, speak up in the comments and keep an eye out for more soon.
Daughter (9, in 4th grade) asks wife: “why do fractions have to have the same denominator to be compared?“

Wife: “Good question. If you and I have cups of the same size, and we want to know who drank more, we can just line them up and see the level. But if my cup is bigger than yours, it's harder for us to tell who has more drink left. So we could make sure both our drinks are in the same sized glass to be able to compare.“

Genius. What a great, simple metaphor.
160k stars on YDKJS #github. Wow, thanks everyone! :)

It is hard to overstate just how piece of sh** the Safari iOS browser is. It might be the worst piece of software in existence today.

I am reasonably competent at JS and web technologies, and I know how basic web standards work (like html, css, js, cookies, etc). For the damn life of me I can't get this site to **CONSISTENTLY** work for iOS users... and basically, I am just flipping the table and telling them, sorry... get a better damn phone.

I cannot understand how any web dev actually writes web code that even remotely works in iOS Safari. It's a stain on the existence of the web and it should be banned from support.
