Notifying a candidate they are not moving forward in the hiring process is hard.

But do you know what's harder?

A candidate being disrespected by hearing nothing at all.

Employee: I am resigning and giving my two week notice.

Boss: Why? What happened?

Employee: Four months ago you promised me a promotion and it still has not happened. As well, I was offered a significant raise and a better opportunity.

Boss: I need you here. We will match your new salary immediately and if you stay will be promoted.

Employee: Sorry, it’s too late. You should have kept your promise.

Moral of the story:

It’s simple. Take care of your employees or another employer will.

Kindness to everyone should be our default setting.

Kindness is free and its value is priceless.

It builds genuine connections, makes everyone feel valued, is contagious, and a win-win for everyone involved.

When we lead with compassion, we create an environment where innovation and collaboration can thrive.

Kindness fuels impact and it’s the smallest actions that make the biggest difference.

It's the key to a better world.

Let's all strive to be a little kinder, every day.

I once asked my boss for a $10,000 raise.

Based on my accomplishments and strong performance review I felt this request was justified and fair.

It fell on deaf ears and months went by.

When it became clear this wasn't going to happen I went out and got myself a $15,000 raise.

With another employer.

Remember - if you are not being paid what you're worth you can always leave.

Be you own best advocate.

Don't put your career in someone else's hands, especially those who don't reward or recognize your value.

Let’s be real: job hunting can mess with your head.

The waiting, the rejections, the ghosting, the self-doubt.

It’s not just about finding a job; it’s about staying strong while you do.

Here are 7 ways to build your confidence during the search:

1. Reframe Rejection
↳ It’s redirection, not failure.
↳ Every “no” is one step closer to your “yes.”

2. Track the Wins –
↳ Keep a “confidence file” with wins.
↳ Review it often to remind yourself you are amazing.

3. Update Your Resume Like a Highlight Reel
↳ You’ve done more than you think.
↳ Own your impact, not just your job titles.

4. Celebrate Small Steps
↳ Applied to three roles today?
↳ That counts. Progress is momentum.

5. Reconnect with Your Network
↳ Confidence grows when people remind you of your value.
↳ Don’t isolate—reach out. Most people truly want to help.

6. Keep Learning
↳ Take a short course, read a book, attend a webinar.
↳ Growth fuels confidence.

7. Speak Kindly to Yourself
↳ Replace “I’m not good enough” with “I’m still becoming.”
↳ Mindset matters much more than you think.

From my experience working in HR for many years....

People don’t quit jobs.

They quit:

▶ Toxic culture
▶ Poor management
▶ Low compensation
▶ Lack of connection
▶ Excessive workload
▶ No work/life balance
▶ Feeling undervalued
▶ Not feeling supported
▶ No career advancement

No one deserves to work under these conditions.

And if employees are leaving, and you care about your culture...

It's time to figure out why and fix it.

LinkedIn is all about making connections.

If you see someone with #opentowork or #openforwork on their banner, consider doing the following:

* Share profiles with others
* Share job leads with others
* Write a recommendation
* Comment for wider reach
* Tag others who are hiring

These small acts of kindness can make a world of difference.

Let’s all do our part ❤️

Quitting a job is ok.

Moving on is ok.

What is NOT ok is staying at a job where your mental or physical health is being compromised and you are not valued nor appreciated.

This is a vicious cycle that needs to stop.

Think about when someone took a chance on you when you didn’t have experience.

Be that person.

You just may be amazed at what you will find.

People don't quit their jobs, they quit their managers.

When your employees resign, it's a wake-up call about the state of your leadership.

To keep your team engaged:

🔸 Celebrate wins, both big and small
🔸 Provide honest and real time communication
🔸 Give employees the freedom to make decisions
🔸 Be transparent, keep promises, and demonstrate integrity
🔸 Offer real growth opportunities and clear promotion paths
🔸 Provide great work/life balance and offer flexible work options
🔸 Make sure employees have the tools, resources, and support they need
🔸 Acknowledge and reward employees for their hard work and achievements

Remember, leadership isn't just about driving results...

It's about creating a workplace where people want to contribute, stay and thrive.

A company’s culture is everything.

No one deserves to work at a job that makes them unhappy or compromises their mental, emotional or physical health.

Remember, it’s not only about if you are a fit for the company.

But if the company a fit for YOU.

Choosing to leave a job that's making you miserable shows strength and ownership over your career.

If a candidate has a short tenure at a role that wasn't a fit or made them unhappy, I will never penalize them for that.

If you start a new job that you hate, and worry about jumping ship, don't.

Follow your heart.

Life is too short to be miserable.

Take action and find the right role and company for YOU.

Remember....

You are at the driver's seat of your career.....

Here are the worst reasons not to hire someone:

1. Age

Ageism has no place in Corporate America. Experienced candidates bring a sense of maturity, are highly adaptable, bring a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective.

2. They have resume gaps.

As a recruiter, I will never punish a candidate for having a gap(s). There are lots of reasons why gaps exist and as a recruiter, I don’t ask for the reason(s) as it’s none of my business. Plus, it has NO bearing if someone has the qualifications to do the job.

3. They are overqualified.

Overqualified candidates often require less training and may bring a broader range of skills outside of the job description. Not everyone is looking to climb the corporate ladder. If someone who knows they know more or have done more applies for a job that does less - maybe that is exactly what they are looking for.

4. They don’t interview well.

It’s completely normal to feel nervous during a job interview. Not everyone interviews well but that has no bearing if they have the qualifications to do the job. Some of the BEST people I have hired throughout the years did not interview well but turned out to be incredible employees.

5. They’ve had numerous jobs in a short period of time.

There are many reasons why people have many jobs over a short period of time to include layoffs, needing to make a higher salary, they are unhappy at their job, etc. Never assume anything.

A bit more open-mindedness could go a LONG way in finding hidden gems.

And talent often shines the brightest when you least expect it.

I love this quote by Richard Branson.

Employees should always come first.

The best way to retain great talent isn’t some secret formula.

↳ Pay them well
↳ Train them so they grow
↳ Appreciate their contributions
↳ Provide great work/life balance
↳ Really care about them as people
↳ Foster a positive company culture
↳ Encourage autonomy & ownership
↳ Create a culture of trust and respect

Culture is everything.

Without it, retention is just a dream.

Treat your employees like they make a difference...

And they will.

This coming week...

I hope you get your dream job. 💗
I have hired hundreds of people throughout my career.

And I have come to learn that there's no such thing as the perfect candidate.

Everyone should have a fair chance to contribute and succeed.

That's all job seekers want and deserve - a chance.

Most skills can be taught, but a great attitude, strong character, and the willingness to learn are priceless.

From my experience, look for a foundation of soft skills.

If the candidate has these, they can learn anything.

While many of these can be taught at home, as my husband and I have done with our two boys, it would be wonderful if schools also taught these classes and basic life skills.

People don't search for jobs because it's fun.

They search for jobs because they need the resources to support themselves and their families.

Behind every resume is a real person with feelings, ambitions, hopes and dreams.

If you are in a position to hire, please do so with empathy, dignity, kindness and compassion.

Not only is this the right thing to do.....

Your employer brand, which is so incredibly important, will thank you.

Most career paths don't follow a straight line.

Career evolution is a journey, not a straight path.

And every great achievement starts with a single action.

True growth happens through experimentation and discovery.

Strategic job hopping is a smart way to explore different opportunities and discover what truly excites you.

Keep focusing on what lights you up and what makes your heart and soul happy.

Know that it's always ok to learn, grow, and move on when your job no longer serves you.

Life is way too short to live with regrets.

Dear Employers,

Working from home allows us to see our families and loved ones more.

We save so much time and money without having to commute.

We are more efficient and have higher job satisfaction.

We feel less stressed and more focused.

The flexibility and work/life balance this affords makes us appreciate our situation and in turn, work even harder.

Plus, you can hire the best, no matter where they are.

The professional world has changed, and so much for the better.

If you don't allow your employees to work from home, I promise another employer will.

Signed,
The Global Workforce

Hiring Manager:
I love this candidate but would like to see a few more to compare.

Recruiter:
I suggest we move forward with an offer, the candidate is entertaining other opportunities as well.

Hiring Manager:
Thanks, but I still want to interview additional candidates.

Two weeks later...

Hiring Manager:
Let's make an offer to that candidate.

Recruiter:
Sorry, that candidate is off the market. I suggested you proceed with an offer but you didn't take my advice.

Hiring Manager:
Damn, I should have listened to you as this was the best candidate I interviewed. Now we're back to square one and I urgently need to fill my position. It's going to take weeks, if not months.

Lesson Learned and my advice:
If you like a candidate, don't dilly dally around.

Extend the offer.

Working in HR for many years, here is what I know for sure.

1. Offering flexibility isn't a perk, it's a necessity.

2. Employees don't leave companies; they leave bad managers.

3. Pay your employees what they are worth, or another employer will.

4. Prioritizing a healthy work culture and genuine leadership is the foundation of success.

5. The most successful companies prioritize their employees over anything else.

6. Tolerating toxic behavior is an open invitation for your company to be a revolving door.

7. A great culture is not about free lunches and happy hours. It's determined by what a company celebrates and tolerates.

8. Employees who feel valued, appreciated and connected fosters trust, respect and open communication.

9. Employees are evaluating the employers just as much as the company is evaluating the employees. A one-sided employer-employee relationship won't attract or retain top talent.

10. During a performance review, when employees are given feedback, they, in turn, should also be able to provide feedback on the company and their experience working there. No one should be surprised during their review as managers should be providing real time feedback throughout the year.

Anything else you would add?

When I was trying to break into a career in HR, I will never forget the Hiring Manager who took a chance on me.

I had zero experience.

She later told me she saw my potential, could assess I was a hard worker and had the integrity the job required.

That chance afforded me the opportunity to work at that company for 18 years.

And the job of a lifetime.

I owe it all to her.

And vowed to pay it forward and offer others a chance....

As she did with me.❤️

A few years ago, I interviewed an individual to work on my team.

Her salary requirements were significantly below the pay of the position.

While in theory I could have lowballed her....I would never do that to a candidate.

When I extended the offer, I offered her a salary which was way more than what she was asking for.

When she accepted the offer, her appreciation meant everything.

I believe in doing the right thing.

I believe in paying people what they are worth.

I believe in paying people what they deserve.

What I DON'T believe in is ripping people and taking advantage of their vulnerability.

Real perks aren’t listed in a job post.

They’re felt in the culture and how you are treated and made to feel.

If you're in the job market, don't just look for the next opportunity…

Look for the one where you’ll be valued, supported, and challenged to be your best self.

It’s about finding a place where you feel empowered, where your ideas are heard, and where you can truly thrive

A job fills your bank account….

But the right company fuels your happiness and career.

Agree?

For everyone who has experienced a layoff, speaking from experience, here are my top pieces of wisdom and advice.

💹 It's not your fault.

💹 Try not to waste time figuring out the 'why'.

💹 Take the time needed to reseat and recharge.

💹 There is absolutely NO reason to feel ashamed.

💹 So many of us have been there before, me included.

💹 Top performers are not immune to layoffs. Not by a long shot.

💹 You have greater strength than you realize. Allow it to come to the surface.

💹 Don't allow this to shake your confidence or self-worth. You are WAY more than your job.

💹 When one door closes another one opens What is behind that next door may be one of the best things that will happen to you.

💹 Being laid off is not a reflection of your worth or capabilities. It's often a result of organizational changes or economic factors beyond your control.

💹 Reach out to your professional network, former colleagues, and friends for support. Networking can open doors to amazing new opportunities and provide valuable advice and insights.

Remember, being laid off is just one chapter in your career journey.

YOU'VE GOT THIS! 😀
