I remember when Mom shared with me last year that she was retiring from nursing and dedicating herself and her small life savings to feeding the homeless and hungry with tasty, healthy, high-end cuisine. I instantly responded, “I’m here to support you every step of the way.”
My mom was homeless and hungry as a young child. She shared that many days she lived off peanuts, soda, and people’s leftovers. She said, “I remember my experience as a child so vividly. My value, self-esteem and confidence were connected to someone else’s leftovers. There is trauma and pain subconsciously and consciously. I was always grateful, but I think about how I would have felt about myself receiving someone’s best and how that could have positively impacted my confidence to propel during those tough times. Those homeless and hungry deserve the best. So, I'm giving them my best, and I want this population to feel loved, empowered and energized to progress in life. This can happen through food!”
My mom launched her non-profit, One Less Worry Non Profit, in October 2021 and has fed about 4,000 people since. One Less Worry now feeds 100+ people every Tuesday.
I’m so proud of her accomplishments and the love that she injects back into the world every day. I took her out to celebrate receiving her first grant of $7,500.00 from the Rhode Island Foundation. I pray more grants and donations come pouring through, because she’s invested all her savings into her heart's purpose.
