I hated Sam Parr.
He was annoying when I first met him, well sometimes he can still be annoying today 😆
BUT he’s someone I’ve become close friends with and have been regularly admiring him.
Why? Present as a father, prioritizes his marriage and seems to be making a lot of money doing things he loves. No compromises.
So on a recent car drive, I asked him how he seems so aligned. Living a life that appears fulfilling.
He mentioned he has 3 things he considers in his working life:
1- Is it fun?
He loves meeting people - created JoinHampton. He had a problem finding accountants / lawyers - created samslist. Wanted to interview interesting people - created MyFirstMillion. He refuses to create or work on business without personal interest.
2- Can I make at least 7-figures from it?
With all of his projects he thinks before he starts can he make at least 7-figures from it personally. Be mindful of your market size. If you’re going to work hard either way at least be aware of how big the opportunity is.
3- Do I have unique expertise or an advantage in doing it?
With his new project Samslist he has a large audience of customers / partners that he can easily promote this service. He sold his ranch when realizing he was better at tech. And for his new business launches, they are all related to his zone of influence.
I’d also add a few more things I’ve noticed from Sam:
1- Hire CEOs. With every business Sam finds a CEO to put in place once he gets it going. This frees up his time and he can spend his cycles advising the CEO rather than being one.
2- His partner Sara Parr. She’s life-upgraded him. This has been such a game-changer for me to find a partner who teaches and supports me on a regular basis.
3- No fucks given. I love when Sam calls out VCs harassing people or he chooses to showcase his mother-in-law's pillow company. He’s not optimizing for an algorithm. I often find myself thinking - what will people think or this won’t help me get followers but seeing Sam inspires me to just be me.
4- Sam still makes the calls. When he was starting Hamptons or Samslist - Sam is the one who starts it and does intensive customer calls to understand the business. I love the intensity and work that he’s willing to put in to get a business started.
Thanks for the inspiration Sam Parr 🙇♂️
