Scientists have developed a #bloodtest to diagnose #Alzheimersdisease without the need for expensive #brainimaging or a painful #lumbarpuncture, where a sample of cerebrospinal fluid (#CSF) is drawn from the lower back.

If validated, the test could enable faster #diagnosis of the disease, meaning therapies could be initiated earlier.

Scientists developed an #antibody-based blood test that would detect a particular form of #tau protein called brain-derived tau, which is specific to #Alzheimer’s disease.

More and more #staphylococci are becoming #resistant to #antibiotics (also known as multi resistant staphylococcus aureus or #MRSA), and these infections can be difficult to treat.

A new substance called #endolysins has proven capable of killing both resistant and non-resistant staphylococcus aureus – without the need for antibiotics.

“This particular endolysin is a brand new, artificially produced #enzyme that has been improved several times and designed as a new drug,” explains the first author of the study.

“The great thing about this enzyme is that it has been designed to penetrate the wall of staphylococcus aureus. This enables it to target and kill the harmful staphylococcus and leave harmless skin bacteria unharmed.”
