Do you know why usually school and college friendships last longer?

Because the friendships formed in our younger days do not see status, ego, caste, race or money.

Because the friendships formed in our younger days do not see reciprocity.

As we grow older, most of us do not form deep friendships anymore. We simply form networks.

What do you think?

When I became a manager, my output suddenly started depending on others. I initially found it difficult to trust my team to deliver the same quality of work I demanded from myself.

It took me a few weeks before I realized, I had 2 options:
1. I could either try to do everything myself, burn myself out, and not be able to deliver the amount of work I needed
2. I could trust my team, delegate and help them develop

Most new managers struggle with this dilemma. But over a period of time, you realize that the more you trust your team, the more your team trusts you.

Your success depends on the success of your team, and vice versa, because you and your team are now a unit. This is the change in mindset you need to bring about as a manager.

The sooner managers realize this, the sooner their team succeeds.

I don't believe in over-the-top new year resolutions - I believe in simple but actionable resolutions. This year was dedicated to fitness - and I ended up losing 15+ kgs.

My girl had been pushing me towards starting my fitness journey for a while, and I always used to ignore her push.

Ironically, it took me this year of long-distance relationship to realize the value of her words and actually initiate the fitness journey. Sometimes, we value a person's words much more when we are miles away from them.

We have one life, one body, and one mind - and I realized how much crap I used to insert in the form of junk food and desserts. And I started treating my body and mind with the respect they deserve.

My resolution for 2023 is also going to be a simple but actionable one. I will start focusing a lot more on my relationship - dancing, reading and working out together, discovering new hobbies together, traveling together, and pushing each other to achieve our potential.

Together.

If you can’t support someone trying something new, at least don’t make fun of them.

It is VERY easy to make fun of someone trying something new. But it takes REAL guts to try something new yourself.

If you can’t support someone, at least don’t make fun of them.
I had just started my consulting career. I remember an incident that made me feel really proud of my firm and the type of work we do.

We had just kicked off a cost reduction project and were in one of our first discussions with the client team.

Midway, a junior client started insisting on us preparing multiple reports. We wanted to focus on the actual work instead.

My project manager asked him the reason for his insistence, as that was clearly going to affect the time we could spend on actual work.

He said, “What we want from you is daily & weekly reports on…”

My project manager cut him short in a strict no-nonsense tone. “No Sir, what you want from us is X% cost reduction. That is what we have been hired to do, and that is what we WILL do. We are here to deliver real value, not to prepare a hundred reports.”

There was stunned silence in the room.

These are the moments that keep me going, even 6 years after joining the world of consulting.
