This is a really clear and powerful presentation about one of the greatest challenges that humanity is facing right now. I've been a sceptic about 'AI doom' arguments and tech prophets for a long time, but I'm changing my mind.
There's an arms race going on, between a handful of for-profit companies. Without democratic oversight. Without any serious legislation to protect the public from disasters. Meanwhile, there are *way more* researchers working on making AI more powerful than on making AI more aligned with human values and interests.
We're living through extraordinary times - it's hard to keep track of just how fast these systems are improving. If you still don't think that large language models like Chat GPT 3/4 are probably the most consequential technological breakthrough in our lifetime, then you just have not been paying attention.
Anyway, I think this presentation is very much worth your time.
