Dear job candidate,

If you don’t greet the receptionist or the janitor while you wait for your interview, we don’t want you on the team.

EVERYONE on our team matters.

What you fail to realize - is that the janitor or receptionist may not be the “hiring manager” or “decision-maker” you came to impress, but their opinion of you may influence the ultimate decision.

The decision-maker may really value their feedback and may purposefully seek it.

So get off your phone while you wait for your interview, be present, and greet everyone you come across - be it the owner of the company or the janitor - because you never know who the true “decision-maker” really is and you never know whose opinion they value most.

Your education, experience, and proven track record as a “team player” mean nothing if you don’t show basic respect and people skills.

Integrity is everything.

Someone with a weak resume.
Can be a strong hire.

Someone over 55 years old.
Can be technologically savvy.

Someone with a heavy accent.
Can be a phenomenal communicator.

Someone without a degree.
Can be extremely intelligent.

Someone who's a single parent.
Can be very reliable.

Throw away the “rules.“ Stop assuming you know what people can bring to the table based their resume, age, education, etc.

To build something extraordinary, you have to do things different.

We interviewed someone who wasn’t the best fit. But it felt wrong to just call and say “you weren’t chosen.” So we did these two things:

1. We called to give them feedback on how they could improve their interview skills.  
2. We sent a quick email that outlined a couple ways they could improve their resume.

It feels terrible to be rejected on your job search, and be left in the dark on why.

So before you reject someone and go about your business, provide them with feedback to improve their chances of landing their next job interview.

Repeat after me: A degree doesn’t guarantee a better hire.

Some people on our team don't have a bachelor's degree.

We gave them a chance based on their eagerness to learn.

And it was one of the best things we've done.

The bottom line is this: a degree doesn't always guarantee someone will be a better fit.

Because a degree doesn't guarantee a team player, integrity, communication, compassion and the burning desire to learn new skills necessary to thrive at work.

Employers should stop rejecting - otherwise highly qualified candidates - for entry-level positions, just because they don’t have a fancy degree.

Eliminating degree requirements can give employers the competitive edge and talent they are looking for.

While giving someone the chance they've been waiting for.

I was jobless
Late on my car payment
About to get evicted
And a single Mom

Life was not easy...
not even close.

I almost lost faith in myself
I almost gave up on my dreams
I almost gave in to my fears

But instead I got up again...
I started to reinvent myself

I knew to change my life,
I had to change

I knew that the beginning was going to be the hardest... because I was planting seeds that would need time to grow

On days I felt frustrated because I couldn’t see any results yet, I had to remind myself that God’s plan for me is big and that the results and the blessings would come

3 years later I’ve built a life that I would never take a vacation from, an online business that gives me joy & fulfillment and the freedom to spend more time with my daughter (after all we only have 18 summers with our children before they’re all grown up)

Please delete job posts for roles that have already been filled or that are no longer available. People are going through enough already. They spend their time and energy applying to these posts, just to find out they never even had a chance.

- Takes credit for your work when it makes them look good

- Shows zero appreciation when you do a good job

- Tells you what to do instead of shows you what to do

I wasn’t chosen for a promotion at my first job out of college. It went to a co-worker because “she had been at the company longer.”

That’s when I told my manager I was leaving.

Management tried to convince me to stay with a desk plaque and a tiny solo office, but it was too late.

90 days later I was at a healthcare startup, feeling happier and making more money.

What NOT getting that promotion taught me:
- Always recognize people for their stellar performance
- Always give promotions before people feel under appreciated
- Never base promotions on office politics
- Never assume you’re going to get promoted because you’re a higher performer or you work harder

And lastly, never stay in a workplace where you feel unappreciated.

Your peace of mind is worth more than that.

My grandfather made a choice at 30.

To immigrate from Cuba to America.

He lost everything.

He lost his engineering degree.

He lost all his money.

He lost his clothes.

He lost his friends.

He lost his home.

When he arrived to Miami, he only had the shirt on his back, a $100 bill and a dream.

He didn’t complain.

He didn’t focus on what he lost.

He didn’t blame his circumstances.

He got three jobs.

He saved money.

He enrolled for English classes.

He networked with people.

He bought a small piece of property.

He opened a mechanic shop.

He delivered great services.

He grew it to two shops.

He made more money.

He bought a home.

He grew to three shops.

He paid for his children’s education.

He helped others like him get on their feet.

He kept building and never gave up.

My grandfather had to rebuild his life from nothing at 30 years old.

He risked it all for the opportunity of “The American Dream.” For the freedom to live life on his terms.

He believed in himself so much.

I know a man who was FIRED.

Just a month before his daughter was born.

He depended on his honest salary to live.

He felt angry and humiliated, but needed to figure out a way to make money.

Everyone he knew in real estate drove nice cars, so he became a real estate agent. He wanted to build something no one could take away from him.

He threw away his TV, started to take care of his health and began to read 📚 on personal development. He applied what he read. He started to see results.

In 3 years he had 40 agents working under him. Then, the 2008 recession hit. He lost it all, but refused to lose himself in the process.

He thought about how he could live a life of meaning by helping others do the same.

He did his research, gathered a team, created a product that people needed, and launched FITTEAM GLOBAL.

In their first year, they exceeded their sales forecast by 1900%.

In just five years, they have helped thousands upon thousands of people live healthier, more fulfilling lives.

Morale of the story: Sometimes losing your job is the best thing that can happen to you.

People always say, “Winners don’t quit.”

But, that’s not true.

Winners quit all the time.

It takes discipline to say “no” to immediate pleasures so that you can invest in long-term rewards.

My uncle got his dream job.

Then he did something strange.

He quit.

Here’s why...

The job description looked quite different than his daily job duties, the “collaborative work environment” the hiring manager raved about turned out to be nothing of the sort, and the “supportive management” was nearly impossible to reach.

But what caused him to walk away was when they continued to delay the raise they promised after 90 days.

Sometimes your “dream job” isn’t the best fit for you.

We interviewed someone who wasn’t the best fit for our culture. BUT it felt wrong to just reject them, so we did this instead... We gave them FEEDBACK on how they could improve their interview skills.  
Because as jobseeker, there’s nothing worse than being rejected on your job search, hearing “no” time after time...

Without being given direction on what you need to improve...

We wanted to do our part to help this person
do better next time and hear a “YES” sooner rather than later.

Help someone if you can, you may be the only one that does.

Some of you know I’m a cancer survivor.

From an early age I was introduced to pain.

I had no choice but to learn how to fight.

I learned that life and pain exist together.

I learned that pain sucks, it hurts.

But I also learned how to adapt to pain.

The days my body hurt I would lay down.

I would read and write nonstop.

And so my passion for copywriting was born.

I would also pay attention to the nurses.

The doctors, patients, their families.

And so my passion for healthcare was born.

All I’m saying is pain is a part of life.

If you try to fight it, you will lose.

If you try to escape it, you won’t outrun it.

If you try to ignore it, you will feel it multiply.

But if you accept it, you can control it.

Them: When are you gonna get a real job?

Me: Never.

I got a lot of “hate” thrown at me when I quit my “safe” job with a baby...and started copywriting ✍️ and building my brand online.

It was hard to hear some of the negative things and see people laugh at me...

But I said nothing and stayed focused.

2 years later, results speak for themselves. Only you know what you’re capable of.

Growth hurts and it’s hard, but never more than the regret you’ll feel if you give up.

2 years ago I was on government assistance, had a 9 to 5 job I didn’t enjoy, and didn’t have a network. I didn’t even know what networking was. Today, I’m so grateful for all I have, I work from wherever I want, and am more committed than ever to the community of 300,000+ in my network.

What changed? I stopped worrying about what I wanted and started helping people get what they wanted.

Your life will only start to change when what you think and do starts to change.

And not a moment sooner.

How to Identify People of Integrity:

1. Pay attention to how they treat people less fortunate than themselves, as well as how they treat people in the service industry such as waiters, janitors, etc.

2. Pay attention to whether they partake in gossip about others or put others down, especially those they feel may have wronged them.

3. Pay attention to when they show up in your life. If they only show up when it’s beneficial or convenient for them, they probably take more than they give. Someone who’s a true friend will show up for you when you need them, even if it’s not convenient or comfortable.

4. Pay attention to how they react when they make a mistake. Do they blame others, make an excuse that the world is against them or do they take responsibility?

5. Pay attention to what they do and what they say. No one is perfect, but their actions should match their promises as closely as possible.

Do the right thing even when it's the hard thing,
Because integrity is everything.
