Unfortunate Observation re women.

I made a few posts about ex-bosses on LinkedIn.

Most of the time people comment with an opinion regarding the boss.

So I went through 3000+ comments and noticed a pattern.

Even though I never specified a gender,

717 out of 719 comments referred to my BOSS as a “HE“

The commentators automatically assumed THE BOSS must be a man.

Which was untrue.

It opened my eyes to how we are conditioned to think that a person in power MUST BE MALE.

I see so many talented and ambitious women who are absolute bosses on LinkedIn.

BUT when positions of power are mentioned we don't even think of women.

I think that is most unfortunate,

Cos women make some of the best bosses ❤

You don't want to be a “creator platform“

- You've axed creator mode.
- You've disowned the term “creator.“
- You've deleted the “LinkedIn for creators“ page.
- You've defunded the LinkedIn Creators program.

But where has that landed you?

We're now constantly bombarded with brain-dead content:

Folks post a broad, viral, often irrelevant cheat sheet, and everyone copies it...

The next day, a feel good illustration goes viral...
So they copy that, and everyone starts posting it...

Then, a lame platitude on a board goes viral...
So they copy that, and everyone starts posting it...

Next, 30 free courses go viral...
So they copy that, and everyone starts posting it...

Then, a cheaply edited platitude on a billboard goes viral...
So they copy that, and everyone starts posting it...

We went from a platform for creators...
To a platform for regurgitators...

Come on LinkedIn.
Bring back the support for your creators.

And while you are at it.
Bring back Luke Matthews.

Creators like him make LinkedIn fun.
Creators like him make LinkedIn creative.
Creators like him make LinkedIn entertaining.

So please,

Support your creators.

(Instead of unfairly banning them)

Because creativity takes courage.

AND If you ban all the brave ones.

You'll be left with a platform full of copycats.

I’ve had a rough few weeks.

(Welcome to another real life post)

Business went sideways.

My daughter wasn't doing the best.
And when your kid isn’t well, your brain isn’t either.

Thank God she’s better now.

It reminded me of something from my corporate days.

I once told my boss I was feeling low and needed a few days.

He said:

“Clients can’t wait because you’re not feeling it.”

6 years later, running my own business…

He was wrong.

Good clients can wait.
Good clients do care.
Good clients act like humans.

We ghostwrite for 18 clients.

Not one of them complained.
Not one of them made it weird.
Not one of them made me feel guilty.

I know they didn't HAD TO.
But they all acted kindly.

That kindness genuinely caught me off guard.

And one person went above and beyond:

My lil sis Lara.

She’s been a client for over a year.
She’s been crushing it on LinkedIn.

And she just launched a new writing tool called Kleo.

When I told her I couldn’t deliver on time, she replied:

“Don’t stress. Send the invoice instead.”

That’s why she’s a leader.

Because anyone can be harsh when things aren’t perfect.

BUT It takes real character to be kind when someone’s underwater.

"I love you but..."
(This is sentence #1)

"I love you but I'm married"
(This is sentence #2)

Whenever i get hit on in the DMs I use sentence #2 as my reply.

It instantly ends the conversation.

Now imagine if I replied with the first sentence instead...

The person on the other end would start thinking:

He loves me but maybe he's gay
He loves me but maybe he's not gay
He loves me but maybe he's unsure
He loves me but may he's into rabbits more...

Basically sentence #1 will give them 500 times more incentive to try and FIND more information.

Sentence 2 will simply end the conversation...

The same applies to your hooks On LinkedIn.

Don't write a hook that ends the conversation.

Write a hook that wants them to read MORE.

Now we all sound like assholes instead.

Because apparently the new LinkedIn sport is “spot the AI copy”:

“That’s an em dash. AI.”
“That’s a listicle. AI.”
“That sentence flowed too well. AI.”

Bro…

Sometimes a good writer is just a good writer.

You’re not morally superior because you didn’t use ChatGPT.

It doesn’t make you Stephen King.
It doesn’t even make you Budget King.

Here’s what actually matters in writing:

Make people feel something.
Make them think something.
Make them do something.

(Yeah I just used the rule of three, suck it.)

Good writing isn’t “human” or “AI.”

Good writing is whatever lands.

Judge the post by the impact.

Not by whether it includes an em dash.

OK?

Posting on LinkedIn is already hard as it is.

So what if Tom used a little tool?

Don't pick on Tom.

Here are 6-7 dumb mistakes that get LinkedIn accounts restricted 👇

Save this before you learn the hard way.

Look,

You don't wanna go to LinkedIn Jail.

So here's a list of actions TO AVOID:

(Thank me later)

1) Do not view too many profiles too quickly
Many folks received a warning last week cos of this.

2) Do not say naughty things in the DMs.
If you send a digg pic, LinkedIn will know. (Seriously)

3) Don't share your posts in Whatsapp groups.
LinkedIn knows whether engagement is real or not.

4) DO NOT use any tools. Even the "safe" ones.
If your activity feels automated you are goooone.

5) Do NOT send the same DM to many people quickly.
LinkedIn will think you are spamming people.

That’s enough trauma for one post.

Stay safe out there folks.

Hello hello, anybody here?

I’ve been away from LinkedIn for 4 months.

I chose my newborn daughter over content, growth, all of it.

So when I was thinking of a comeback post I realised:

ALL THESE COMEBACK POSTS LOOK THE SAME.

“I stopped posting but secretly signed ten new clients. Business exploded while I was offline. Life is amazing.”

PFFFTTTTT.

When you are new in business (and branding) you think you have to uphold this perfect image.

Always winning.
Always booked out.
Always “crushing it.”

That's what these polished gurus taught us.

Eww.

So here's a refreshing comeback post:

While I was away, my business took a big hit.

Client projects got delayed.
Onboardings slowed down.
Team members left.

Revenue dropped to about 20 percent of where we were 4 months ago.

Some clients sacked me.
I sacked some clients.

No tidy comeback arc.
No “and then we 10x’d” story.

Just a dad who took time off, and paid the price.

So if your'e reading this I want you to know:

In a feed where everyone’s ‘crushing it,’

If you stepped back to care for what matters most,

You are not lazy.
You are not weak.
You are not behind.


You are doing the right thing.
You are playing your own game.
Remember,

Your Clients can come back.
Your Cashflow can come back.
Your Views can come back.

But your time with the people you love never will.

Rookie Storytelling on LinkedIn:

1. My partner cheated and I learnt about the attention economy
2. I used to be broke now I'm rich. (Buy my course to learn how)
3. I burned dinner and understood the value of multitasking.
4. I got lost hiking and discovered my career path.
5. My dog died and taught me writing.

These stories might get you reactions.
But they won't get you sales.

Instead,

Expert Storytelling on LinkedIn:

1. Your origin story (whotf are you and why are you here?)
2. Your transformation story (How did you become good?)
3. Your reflective story (What did you learn?)
4. Your purpose story (Why are you doing this?)
5. Your client story (How did you help someone else?)

You can tell these using Ash's 6P framework.

Protagonist: Who is this story about?
Present: Where does this story start?
Problem: What was the challenge they faced?
Pit: What was the lowest point for them?
Progress: How did they get out of the pit?
Power: How did they regain their power?

(Save this for whenever you decide to actually do it)

Whether you are looking for a job or looking for a client.

These 5 stories will help you establish authority.

For example:

None of this was in the contract, but I did it anyway:

1) Find them a boyfriend. (It didn't work)
2) Fire people on their behalf.
3) Counsel them through a divorce.
4) Help them move money overseas (50k)
5) Pick their outfit for a keynote (yes, seriously)
6) Plan their wedding.

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve done for a client…

Let me fix em for you:

(Save this so you can do better than Chaksu):

- Never kiss ass to start a convo.
(This instantly positions you as low value)

- Don't promise riches.
(You can't lure in quality people this way)

- Talk like a teenager. (seriously)
(It's the quickest way to sound natural)

- Cut your losses quick.
(Never try and convince anyone)

- Let conversations marinate.
(Avoid premature pitchjaculation)

- Connnect first. Qualify second. Convert third.
(This avoids the pitch slap)

- Purposely ignore people that are lukewarm.
(Don't spend time convincing. Spend time closing)

- Mimic the recipients energy.
(Short replies get short replies.

- Spend more time prospecting than DMing.
(Most of the money is made before the DM.)

- Never ever turn sour.
(This instantly burns a connection)

- Monitor conversations using Sales Nav.
(Without a funnel you'll forever be lost)

Oh and most importantly:

Stop writing paragraphs.

This isn’t English class.
It’s Binnus. OK?
