Around 10pm, Imam Adam Kelwick crossed the road to hand out burgers and speak with those gathered outside the mosque about their reasons for being there.
While some declined to engage, Don Cornell had a lengthy conversation with Kelwick.
“That’s a fair point,“ said Cornell after Kelwick explained that the Muslim community shared his concerns.
Kelwick added, “When things have calmed down a bit, we’re going to arrange a forum and we want genuine people like you to come in. We’ll listen to each other and discuss the issues. But you’ve got to be ready to step up and talk.“
Cornell agreed.
The conversation ended with a hug.
This is leadership.
Well done to both of these gentlemen for setting a great example.
This is what Islam truly embodies: love, acceptance, patience, respect, and our shared humanity.
We need more posts like this to remind us that the world is filled with more good people than not.
Wishing you a blessed Monday.
