“The right to peace is the mother of all human rights.

Without peace, all other rights are quashed.”

At the UN Human Rights Council on Monday, United Nations Human Rights chief Volker Türk called for greater efforts to combat warmongering, fear and hatred for a more peaceful world.

He said that widespread violations of international humanitarian and human rights law are having a devastating impact on millions of civilians, and stressed the importance of rebuilding trust, and working towards healing and reconciliation.

“We need to regain a mindset of peace.”
