Yesterday I sent this message to the 135,000+ employees of Johnson & Johnson around the world. Because it is so essential that we all speak out, I want to share it with the wider community as well.
One of my favorite pieces of advice: never go to bed without a book on your bedside table. Reading even 20 minutes every night is a practice that will help you your entire career by constantly expanding your horizons. I just finished Walter Isaacson's The Code Breaker, a riveting look at the discovery of CRISPR by Nobel laureate (and Johnson & Johnson board member) Dr. Jennifer Doudna. I recommend this book not only for those hoping to learn more about this tremendous new technology, but anyone interested in a real-life story of the resilience, grit, and risk-taking that lie at the heart of innovation.

I’m proud to share that Johnson & Johnson has been named a TIME 100 Company—a new award celebrating the positive role corporations can play in society. At a time when the stakes of good health have never been higher, this recognition of all the ways we’re creating a healthier future is a testament to the incredible resilience, dedication, and ingenuity of our 135,000 employees around the globe. #TIME100
Today is Veterans Day in the United States, an occasion for all of us to honor those who have served and sacrificed so much for their fellow citizens. It’s also a day when I always think about my late father, Al Gorsky—the man who showed me what can be accomplished when you serve your country and bring that military experience to the corporate world. Earlier this week I spoke with the Veterans Leadership Council at Johnson & Johnson as well as The Wharton School Veterans about my own time in the U.S. Army, and encouraged them to never underestimate the unique skill sets they possess. Veterans like Ashley Sogge and Megan Duley have the kind of discipline and insights that are critical to building unified, empowered teams in any kind of company. I can’t wait to see what their generation of leaders accomplishes—both at Johnson & Johnson and beyond.
