Want to get featured in Forbes?

See step 5 😅

Kidding...

Kind of not though.

Basically every Digital PR client ever:

“We want the FRONT page of Forbes!!“

“Ideally, by tomorrow.“

“Can we get that?“

🙈

GOOD NEWS

You can win placements.

We just won one for a client.

👀 How?

By being persistent AF.

(And by capturing momentum)

Always be scouting for “market tailwinds“

AKA...

Ways to add extra juice to your story.

Based on what's happening in the world today.

Find a unique angle ONLY your client can speak to.

That can become your wedge to finally break through.

P.S. Forbes journalists requests are normally filled within 1 hour, with 30 to 40 requests so you need to stand out QUICKLY and CLEARLY with a unique moat.

May the odds be in your favor ✌️

Sales:

“THROW MORE!“ 🌹

12 yeas ago, I was the head of marketing at Semrush

and I got scammed by a Digital Pr agency.

Because I was chasing the shiny flowers.

And by flowers... I mean leads.

It was bad...

(It got me thisss close to getting fired)

👀 The story for you:

I got pitched by a Digital PR agency who said they could deliver high quality placements including links for us. They made “guarantees“ and seemed reputable so I decided to bet a chunk of our budget to test it.

The links they delivered for $20,000?

Trash bin.

We got one PAID link on SEJ. The rest? Links you wouldn’t even want to mention to anyone. Just plain spam. Yea...

My opinion of digital PR back in 2011 was 👎

You’d pay a ridiculous amount of money and get what? Nothing. Just a giant hole in your marketing budget. I had to explain to my manager what happened to those $20K. Could I give a decent explanation? Definitely not.

That’s when I promised myself: never EVER again would I go back to digital PR. Fast forward to today and here I am...

Running a digital PR agency: Digital Olympus

😂

That's why we NEVER tell our clients it’s easy, or that they’ll see results tomorrow, or any other kind of BS. We actually do the work.

We work hard to earn those placements for you. That’s why we ask for time to get the ball rolling because it’s real, and it takes effort. That's why we get real features in Forbes, The New York Times, BBC, you name it.

📌 FRIENDLY WARNING:

Are the same shady digital PR practices I experienced 12 years ago still happening? Yes. Marketers are still being scammed by agencies who take their money and disappear with a “ciao!”

Digital PR agencies that promise you “fast results“ on exact media sites? It’s either SPAM or SCAM. Don't get hustled like I did back in 2011.

Real digital PR takes time.

Invest accordingly ✌️

h/t Semrush for this 💎
