Swiss artist Simon Berger has been working with portraits made out of glass for three years. It's a process that requires delicately hammering his canvas to create just the right cracks. Sometimes it takes him one try, but other times it can take him five.

Glass is pretty much monochromatic, so the secret to making the portraits pop is creating dimension through light and dark sections. He's developed his techniques through trial and error. To get the depth he wants, he now has a clear idea of how many times he has to hit the glass. To minimise the chances of shattering his canvas, Simon works with laminated safety glass.

Travellers coming through Tampa International Airport (TPA) will soon be greeted by a striking site: a 21-foot-tall (6.4 metres) pink flamingo. The fun sculpture created by artist Matthew Mazzotta is titled “HOME,” and will be installed in the main terminal in November.

“We are more than a place that people simply pass through – we are the first and last impression of the Tampa Bay region,” said Airport CEO Joe Lopano in a statement. “Public art is critical to creating a sense of place and leaving our guests with a unique and engaging experience.”

L.A. artist Darel Carey is revolutionising our perception of space using just a roll of electrical tape, a knife, and a ladder. Growing up immersed in California's hip hop and breakdancing culture, Carey found his initial creative outlet in graffiti. Despite this early passion, he didn't pursue art professionally until much later, having served as a language analyst in the US Air Force until 2012.

Carey's work primarily explores optical and spatial perception, utilising lines to manipulate and transform the perceived dimensions of surfaces and spaces. His art is heavily influenced by MC Escher, drawing inspiration from Escher's geometric illusions, mathematical patterns, and tessellations.

SOUND ON - Co-founded by Eloi Maduell and Santi Vilanova, Barcelona-based studio, Playmodes consists of a hybrid team of engineers, musicians and designers. Their deep interest in the relationship between visual and auditory phenomena, as well as their skills in electronic music composition, leads them to create projects where sound and image are treated as a single matter. In most cases, the same streams of data generate both audio and visuals through self-made software. Concepts like realtime image sonification, or audio visualisation are common in their work, giving form to visual music artworks that drive the audience into strong synaesthetic perceptions.

BEYOND was performed at the Signal Festival, Prague in 2017. It consisted of a 35m long tunnel fitted with lighting and speakers. The waves of light and sound immersed participants in a perfectly synced, hypnotic experience.

Artist Ross McSweeney creates beautiful wooden kinetic sculptures that captivate with their simplicity and mesmerising movements. This particular artwork features a little boat gently floating upon a bumpy sea while fish magically leap out of the waves, dancing gracefully as they rise and fall.

Ross does not rely on modelling software to bring his visions to life. Instead, he draws all of his designs in 2D and then using his imagination, transforms them into three-dimensional, laser-cut wonders. Witnessing the final model move and function just as imagined is a source of pure happiness for the artist.

Following on from what appears to be a trend in anamorphic design for large LED screens, this giant cat has just popped up in Tokyo's Shinjuku area. The animation shows the creature waking up in the morning and falling asleep as the sun sets on the city.

The digital billboard spans over three floors and stands out as it features a curved LED screen, which can display 4K images, and is accompanied by speakers. The curved screen allows for more depth and therefore more engaging 3D visual effects.

Absolutely obsessed with the work of sculptor Anthony James. His ability to immerse viewers in an otherworldly universe of neon light is extraordinary. The artists' portal icosahedrons – twenty-sided light installations – are made up of repeating equilateral triangles that layer over one another in reflection to create a mesmerizing matrix of glowing LEDs.

Japan-based artist Shibata Ayumi designs intricate landscapes using layers of white paper. Some of her sculptures are miniature, whereas others are large-scale art installations, and all are brought to life with the play of light and shadow. The works feature architectural domes, cave-like forests, and swirling suns hovering over tree-filled cities. These picturesque places aren’t based on a particular location but what the artist hopes and believes the future of the planet could look like.

Shibata’s ethereal landscapes envision a world in which humans and natural forms coexist, and she describes her pieces as having a Yin and Yang element. Paper represents Yin, the material, and the ways the works emit shadows correlates to Yang, the invisible world. “The light represents spirit and life, how the sun rises and breathes life into the world. BREAKFAST is a Brooklyn-based kinetic art studio that employs the perfect blend of computer science, mechanical engineering and striking aesthetics to create interactive installations that connect and engage viewers.

“Sea Level Lighthouse” is a public art sculpture concept created by the amazing team that uses their kinetic Brixels to bring attention to our rising sea levels. While the traditional lighthouse warns ships about approaching land, this sculpture warns people about the approaching sea. As with some of their other installations, each Brixel is controllable, via an app that communicates with the sculpture.

SOUND ON - Occasionally I come across artwork that affects me in a profound way. The contributing factors are always a passionate performance and/or narrative with an incredible soundscape. Today I feel compelled to repost this beautiful short film.

'Ama' is performed and directed by deep-sea diver and underwater filmmaker Julie Gautier. This mesmerising and hypnotic work follows Gautier through several uninterrupted minutes of underwater choreography, gracefully performed in the world’s deepest pool near Venice, Italy. She holds her breath as she uses controlled movements to twist and glide through the calm water, eventually rising up to the surface with the release of one giant air bubble.

The internationally acclaimed 'Umbrella Sky Project' which started in Portugal around eight years ago is an art installation created by world-renowned textile designer Masaru Suzuki. 2,000 colourful umbrellas currently line the 300 metre long paths in Metsä Village and Moomin Valley Park, Japan.

Artist duo Przemek Podolski and Marta Basandowska from Krakow, Poland, wanted to present a new form of art that combines science and technology. String Art Installations are tens of thousands of straight lines intersecting in space creating a three-dimensional object. Multiplication of their composition evokes the impression of extended reality. They present most of their installations in a dark room and animate the string structure using ultraviolet.

This beautifully executed project was a collaboration between Nokinomo (interactivity) L'agency NC (scenography) and LA MEDUSE (audiovisual). Created for Tiffany & Co. Shanghai as part of the exhibition celebrating 180 years of art, innovation, and know-how, the installation invited visitors to write or draw a love message for the brand. Their messages appeared to float out onto the screen and then disappear in ripples of water.

SOUND ON - Studio ENESS' beautiful creation, titled 'Modern Guru and the Path to Artificial Happiness,' was recently exhibited at the Centre d'art à Châteaugiron, France. The art installation transported visitors into a world of discovery. As they wandered through the installation, they encountered a meandering trail adorned with larger-than-life inflatable characters. These whimsical beings mesmerise with their enchanting chants and innocent digital eyes that blink with curiosity.

At the heart of this artistic spectacle, visitors encounter a ten-metre-long mystical yogi, floating gracefully above them. This figure is believed to bestow luck upon those who encounter it. Additionally, the installation features the Modern Guru, an embodiment of artificial intelligence, presenting thought-provoking messages generated by AI that encourage contemplation about the origins of guidance. Both the mystical yogi and the Modern Guru beckon viewers to engage with their radiant surfaces, tactile textures, and beautiful soundscapes inspired by Asiatic ambiance, inviting them to embark on a truly mystical and multi-dimensional experience.
