Top 5 Japanese Techniques to Overcome Laziness:
1. Ikigai

Discover your purpose in life.

Determine the reason you wake up each morning.

Choose something that aligns with your strengths, passions, and the needs of the world.

This is what gives life meaning.

2. Kaizen

Focus on small improvements every day.

You don’t have to do everything at once, just aim to progress little by little.

3. Pomodoro Technique

Work for 25 minutes, take a break for 5, then repeat.

This helps you stay focused and avoid burnout.
It’s a game-changer for productivity!

4. Hara Hachi Bu

Don’t stuff yourself!

Eat until you’re 80% full and you’ll feel more energized throughout the day.

Plus, you won’t have to unbutton your pants after lunch.

5. Shoshin

Approach tasks with a beginner’s mindset. Don’t worry about being perfect or having all the answers.

Just be open to learning and trying new things.

Here’s the best part —
You don’t need to learn ALL these techniques at once.

Just focus on getting a tiny bit better every day (Kaizen)

While staying positive in your journey. (Shoshin)

This is 2023 and we need to change the way that we manage organisation. We are no longer ‘managed’ by the employees but we need to be managing the employees and supporting them.

Let’s do this change for the better. Keep moving!

“I left my homeland Bangladesh 31 years ago when my fifth child was just 6 months old. I haven't returned since. I miss my family and they miss me too. But this is for them.

All of this is for their future.

I came to Malaysia because I heard there were plenty of jobs here. Even if it is just doing jobs that no one else wants to do, I'll do it. I've been doing it 7 days a week, 365 days a year for the past 27 years. I haven't once taken a day of sick leave or even an off day. And I'm still going strong, insha'Allah.

My needs here are simple. I send most of my earnings back to my family. I wake up, I bathe, I have my breakfast, I go to work, I come back, I talk to my family back home over the phone, I rest and it's the same thing the next day, and the day after that. I have made some good friends here, too.

One of my daughters is now a judge, another is a doctor and my son is an engineer. I'm thankful for what they have achieved.

This December I will be going home for good and finally see my family again. It will be the first time I'll see my two grandchildren too.

I can hardly wait.“

Talent is not enough.
You need discipline.
You need dedication.
You need character.
More men have failed, not for lack of talent but for lack of character.

We celebrate diversity and this is what makes Malaysia unique. A melting pot and we are all Malaysian.

Proud to be Malaysian.

When my contract was not extended in 2019 age 55 was a real test in my career. Some do have the luxury of early retirements to pursue other interest.

This is a real career break for me and being at the top of the organisation for more than 20 years, I was very much committed to do what I was paid to do. There are no other plans post contractual obligations. However, I have prepared mentally for this prior to contract expiry and it does help.

This is also the real test of friendship as many ‘friends’ would have disappeared whenever you are no longer in the position of power.

I tried to start few businesses which has no relation to what I was doing to avoid any potential conflict of interest. Some of the businesses were affected due to the pandemic but some are still ongoing.

I did many things from farming, agriculture, physiotherapist center, legal office, automotive workshops etc. This career break is indeed an eye opener and expensive tuition fee for being an entrepreneur!

A friend who owns public listed company later invited me to join and lead the new initiatives and it does provide new experience working within mew corporate culture. Eventhough it was not long but the experience is invaluable. Thank you so much for the kind opportunity Dato' Kamarul Muhamed.

Last year, I was then given the opportunity to lead SIRIM and it is a new corporate experience but similar to my previous role as the leadership at the government owned company.

You can never be prepared to the next event in your life especially at the later stage but God works in mysterious ways to provide for all of us.

Keep on believing and you will definitely rise above the thundering storm!

The good work of all SIRIM family continues with more families assisted and given shelter and food within SIRIM campus. We have setup additional tents to accomodate all and we will ensure the safety especially during the pandemic.

Am so proud of the commitment and sacrifices shown. The spirit of togetherness and support from all level makes the task much easier.

Thank you also to all friends of SIRIM (in photos) for your kind assistance.

Every team members were so happy wanting to help and assist. This is the new culture that we are embracing and we are one SIRIM.
