I’m not a good husband.

Traditionally, I’m supposed to spoil my wife with expensive gifts, take her out for meals and vacations, and support her financially.

But to Divya and me, marriage means complete equality.

We split everything equally — our joys and sorrows, but also our responsibilities and finances.

I remember when we were on our first date, she had fought with me to pay the bill.

She let me win that time, but insisted on picking up the tab on our next outing. And I think that perfectly sums up our relationship.

- I buy her flowers, she surprises me with my favourite snacks.

- She takes care of the kitchen, I do the grocery shopping.

- I pay the electricity bill, she pays the water and gas bills.

- We even split our rent and our vacation expenses.

I know this isn’t the most ‘manly’ thing to do, but we met as broke college students and came up together to become doctors.

So we see each other as equals, and don’t see any reason to follow the tradition of the husband supporting the wife.

More and more women are coming into the workforce today, and I’m so happy to see this new generation of self-empowered women.

Chivalry isn’t dead in 2023. It just extends both ways now.

And I see this as an absolute win for everyone.

Do you believe in gender norms?

If you ended 2024 with unclaimed office leaves, you’re endangering your mental health.

See, there are 2 kinds of employees.

1. Those who take advantage of every leave in their HR policy (this is 90% of people).

2. Those who think they’ll impress their boss and take as few leaves as possible.

If you’re in the 2nd category, I’m here to tell you that you’re doing it all wrong.

Firstly, most Indian companies give the bare minimum leave allowance - the least you need for your mental health.

And skipping even those leaves doesn’t make you a better employee. It makes you a more exhausted one.

As a doctor, I’ve seen how chronic stress manifests in patients:

- Insomnia
- Fatigue
- Burnout

The human body isn’t designed for constant output.

And mental reset grants you superpowers like:

- 40% more creativity
- A stronger immune system
- Higher emotional resilience
- And a higher life expectancy

So please, don’t make the same mistake in 2025.

Block those leaves. Plan a trip. Or just stay home and sleep in.

Because when you take care of yourself, you’re not ‘slacking off’ — you’re investing in your long-term health, happiness, AND productivity.

So it’s good for your mind, body and career.

My son, Krish is almost 6 months old, and I’m not getting him a smartphone / iPad till he’s 13.

I’ve already decided this for a simple reason -

Constant content consumption is frying your kid's dopamine receptors.

Studies suggest most kids cartoons (like Cocomelon) are overstimulating and lead to low attention span, learning difficulties, and even ADHD (inattentive type).

Why?

Fast-paced shows bombard children with rapid scene changes, bright colours, and quick jokes.

This is what makes the show interesting to them - and parents use it a an easy distraction.

But this can overwhelm young brains, which are still developing the ability to filter information and focus.

To identify problematic content like this, look for these signs:

- Fast cuts: Scenes change every 3-4 seconds, with new visuals.

- Oversaturated colours: All colours are exceedingly bright.

- Busy sounds: Lots of things happening at once like — music, sound effects, laughter, and talking.

There are many slower-paced shows with clear narratives and educational elements that can actually be beneficial for developing cognitive skills.

So as parents, what can you do?

▶︎ 1. Look for signs of excessive consumption:

- A constant need for immediate gratification.
- Irritability when not engaged with screens.
- Difficulty focusing on tasks.
- Sleep problems.

▶︎ 2. Consider steps to reduce it by:

- Setting time limits.
- Encouraging non-digital activities.
- Engaging with content together to discuss and learn.
- Choosing high-quality content with educational value.

While screen time matters, what your child watches is just as important.

So help them make the right choice!

Which shows does your kid watch more often?
