Breaking old habits is not going to happen overnight.

Before you label yourself as somebody who has social anxiety, just take a minute and ask yourself this:

💡 Is that reluctance to go out just a sign that you prefer to be home?

💡 Does the nervousness just mean that you’re more interested in deeper connections, not a frat party?

💡 Is the uneasiness about seeing people from your past just a recognition of just how much you’ve grown?

It may surprise you to know that I’m someone who feels all of this. I know, I know… It’s hard to believe because I’m so extroverted online and in my work, but in life I’m really a homebody at heart.

Whenever my husband Chris and I pull up to a gathering, I feel both excited to see people I like, but also a weird feeling in my stomach about small talk with people I don’t know as well.

It took me a really long time to embrace the fact that there’s nothing wrong with me.

I just can’t stand small talk. And I don’t care for big groups. I prefer deep conversations with just a handful of people.

Don’t get me wrong, every once in a while we all need a massive blowout of a party (in fact I’m looking forward to a few this week), but not the conversations about the weather 😉.

You will keep making the same mistakes if you never pause to learn from them. 
 
What I’ve found is that the mistakes get bigger and more painful over time. When you finally wake up and understand the lesson, you’ll see that all this time life was simply trying to get your attention.
 
Save yourself the trouble the next time you’re in a mess or feeling a lot of pain and ask yourself, “What is this person or situation trying to teach me?” You may hate the answer but it beats making the same mistake over and over again.

Who wants to be peeling themselves away from their laptop at the end of the work day feeling drained? Not me!! 
 
Virtual meetings have completely changed how my team and I operate. And while there are SO many pluses I can think of (like seeing my family more by being home or wearing sweatpants during virtual meetings)...there are some downsides (like feeling burned out if you aren’t careful —  you know what I mean).
