After weeks of working from home, some of us will start returning to Allianz offices in phases, starting next week. Still, it will be a long time before we can be as social as we used to be.
Like most of my colleagues, I received our new ‘uniform’ – the Allianz mask. It’s one of the many things we have put together to ensure we all stay protected until the coronavirus threat has passed completely.
Here’s my obligatory selfie. 🙂

The White House in spring. A freshly-elected U.S. government thirsty for action. 40 government leaders and many more corporate, government and NGO representatives.

Earth Day. The mood is upbeat.

And Allianz is the only European company to present its position on climate protection today at President Biden's Leader Summit on Climate.

I was humbled to represent our company and the hard work of my teams in this prominent context.

What are my key takeaways from this major event?

After a shameful pause, the Paris climate protection process is getting back on track. A very good thing!

There is a growing understanding that a critical window of opportunity is closing at breakneck speed.

Immediate action is needed: Verifiable, science-based interim targets to be set and met for the period up to 2030, better still 2025.

And a tangible push in climate policy. One that refocuses the actions of the states and the economy. That redirects investments in green technology and businesses. That relies on free-market regulatory elements. That lays the foundation for sustainable, climate-friendly growth.

I will end by repeating my sentiment from yesterday’s post: Nothing is good unless you do it.

I’m looking forward to meeting our investors at the AGM tomorrow. On my way to Olympiahalle now to say thank you to all the Allianzers who work hard to make these events happen.

Sundays are special. For me personally, this Sunday was extra special: we became the first foreign insurer allowed by Chinese regulators to set up a fully-owned #insurance holding company there. Touched and honored by the trust placed in us.

The excitement at Allianz is building for the upcoming Paralympic Games, which are a shining example of how sport, especially Para sport, can contribute to a more inclusive and innovative society.

• First, this innovation is largely driven by the Para athletes themselves, who transform their sports by pushing the boundaries of the status quo. All athletes, especially Paralympians, inspire us with their resilience, determination, and human spirit.

• Second, the venues play an important role. Paris 2024 emphasized accessibility and equality. Since winning the bid to host the Games in 2017, the city has transformed its transportation infrastructure, making for example 100% of its bus routes and tram lines now wheelchair accessible. There is still more to do. These improvements enable the flow of talent and economic growth in the Paris metro region and leave a legacy of mobility that will benefit all people in the region for years to come.

At #Allianz, inclusivity is a fundamental part of our culture and values. Our partnerships with the International Paralympic Committee and the Valuable 500 help us take meaningful steps toward greater inclusion for people with disabilities. As the Worldwide Insurance Partner of the Olympic and Paralympic Movements since 2021, we have the incredible opportunity of supporting over 160 athletes globally, assisting them not only in their sporting ambitions but also in preparing for careers beyond athletic competition, through various insurance solutions, mentoring, and health initiatives.

Perhaps more than any other global event, the Olympic and Paralympic Games have a unique ability to unite people from diverse backgrounds and cultures. In a world that often feels divided, the Olympic and Paralympic Games embrace differences and act as a bridge connecting us to one another.

I am very proud of my Allianz colleagues whose collaborative work over many months has helped to bring the world together at the Olympic and Paralympic Games #Paris2024. And thank you to all the athletes for showing us how peaceful competition transforms our world for the better.

Our third quarter results, published today, make an important fact very clear: customers are asking for support and solutions to navigate the harsh realities of today. And we are delivering what they need.

This simple formula has resulted in excellent performance in our revenues, operating profit and net income that places our full-year outlook well within reach. And our balance sheet and our capital management capabilities allow Allianz to stand before a changing economic landscape with confidence.

Behind this outcome is Allianz’s strong state of corporate health, which is the foundation of financial and operational success. Our performance in areas such as customer net promoter scores, brand health, employee engagement, sustainability ratings and stakeholder trust represent non-financial measures of success that also translate reliably into competitive and financial advantage over time.

Here are underlying fundamentals that matter:

➡ Our Group customer dNPS results, which measure our customers’ likelihood to recommend us to others and are linked to better business outcomes, overachieved our company targets this year.

➡ Allianz’s global brand is again the highest-ranked insurance brand in the world according to Interbrand, and the 11th fastest growing brand of all sectors; today our Allianz brand is worth more than $18 billion, having increased by more than $3.5 billion in the past year alone.

➡ A healthy and engaged workforce is among the most powerful competitive advantages that our company can have. Our recent annual Allianz Engagement Survey confirmed this conviction with feedback from more than 112,000 colleagues across the world. We achieved our best results to date, with our industry-leading scores on IMIX (Inclusive Meritocracy) and WWI+ (Work Well) indices at an all-time high.

➡ The Dow Jones Sustainability Index again recognized us as a sustainable insurer with a very strong 89/100 rating amid a strengthening competitive set and ever higher standards.

All of these factors reflect an overall strong state of stakeholder trust, which is earned every day by our hard-working Allianz colleagues. As we celebrate the earnings results announced today and look ahead to achieving our operating target by year end, it will be how we work as a team, how we serve our customers, and how we invest in our people that will determine our success.

Results days begin with hectic mornings. So many topics were buzzing in my head on the way to the press conference. The numbers are good and I’m proud of the Allianz family.

Today I am proud to learn that Allianz continues to be recognized as a sustainable insurer, with S&P Global releasing the first wave of results of its global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA), underlying the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI).

We are encouraged by our performance, with a current overall score of 89/100 (Score date: Sept 23, 2022). Ratings and assessments like those conducted by S&P Global are crucial for integrity and transparency – they help us understand if we are on the right track and ensure we strive for continuous improvement. Our commitment to all areas of sustainability remains paramount to our business and our core #Allianz values. I would like to thank all Allianz colleagues who have worked tirelessly on sustainability throughout the year. My gratitude also goes out to all of our engaged partners and peers, with whom we are jointly working together. Collaboration is the way to drive change.

Today, Allianz was honored with #2 place in the #GermanDiversityIndex, which surveys the diversity commitment of the 30 DAX companies.

The award is a further indication that the outside world is seeing us on the right track on all issues that matter to us: sustainability, climate, performance – and not least the implementation of our diversity policy.

We are delighted about this recognition. Not just because we are convinced that this has to be the course. But also because it is a path that matters to people.
