In our efforts to make India self-sufficient and support the front-line workers, Vedanta has imported 23 machines that will produce 40K PPEs per week in collaboration with the Ministry of Textiles. Very happy with the work done by our team, they are leading by example in the fight against Covid19, thinking ahead and helping the government in a synchronised manner.

My dear dreamers,
Always remember that with the two wings of Karma and Dharma, you can fly towards your dreams as high as you want. This is what helped me in my journey.

We set up the first copper rod plant at Lonavala, near Bombay, with the help of our partners from Asarco in the US and Lafarga in Spain. On most days, I would leave my Marine Line 360 sq ft office and take the train to Lonavala. I would spend my nights working and chatting with our factory people, and then I would take the 7am morning train back to the office. I used to barely get any sleep but I always felt fresh after having some cutting chai and Lonavala chikki at the station - just thinking about it brings a smile to my face.

In parallel, I started dreaming about setting up India's first copper smelter. I started travelling across the world to find my investors. My secretary, Hufrish Darver, told me that in the 90s, I was taking approximately 300 flights a year - nationally and internationally! During these flights, I was wide awake - just like a student who cannot sleep because of the excitement of their first day of college. Even though my dream was far from reality - I could feel it and see it.

I was fortunate to find investors who believed in my vision and raised 600 cr through public offering and some debt - I couldnтАЩt believe that my dreams were coming to life. Within a few years of setting up the plant, we increased production capacity from 60,000 tonnes to 4 lakh tonnes. But what gave me the most satisfaction was our ability to provide jobs to 24,000 people!

For my dreamers reading this, today there are a lot of opportunities for start-ups and entrepreneurs as our country has an immense potential for growth. Work towards finding the right investor for your project. If you have a passion and the will to make it happen, you can overcome any difficulty. I encourage you to join these young companies, your careers can grow along with these new innovative businesses. It will also change our country for the better!

Lastly, as in all long-haul flights, there are layovers. My journey had a few too. This time the layover brought in Madras Aluminium, Balco and Vedanta AluminiumтАж

I truly believe that any nationтАЩs tomorrow is built on the foundation of two strong pillars: Technology and Women.

This is the time of AI, automation and sustainability and these two forces are taking us forward.

At Vedanta, we have tried to be conscious of this. From heavy industrial automation to health, we got the opportunity to support 61 such women entrepreneur-led projects across different industries through our Vedanta Spark initiative that incubates promising startups.

Behind these new-age businesses are incredible women like Sarbari Ghosh, driving AI-powered predictive maintenance at Infinite Uptime, Niharika Kolte Alekar, creating advanced drone solutions at Volar Alta, Shweta Shettar, building impressive AIoT for industrial safety at Docketrun and several others.

Women in technology are truly creating solutions for tomorrow and I believe BharatтАЩs future will be built by its women. If we can be a small part of this journey, nothing can give me more joy.

IтАЩm looking forward to supporting more such outstanding women entrepreneurs.

Iss safar mein ek chhota sa nimit banne se bada samman aur kuchh nahi.

To every woman who is breaking barriers, and daring to dream, Happy WomenтАЩs Day. Aapki shakti se hi humari pragati hai!

Is zinc the new lithium? Studies from leading universities like MIT and our own IIT say that zinc is a very good alternative to lithium for batteries and energy storage.

Zinc is more cost effective, longer lasting, better for the environment (easy to recycle) and safer (less flammable than lithium).┬а

Our Hindustan Zinc has signed an MoU with AEsir, an America-based battery manufacturer, to supply this critical metal for their batteries. AEsir's speciality is batteries made with zinc.

With this announcement we are now part of an important global value chain which serves sectors like defence, aerospace, automobiles and ships.

We aim to double our zinc production and ensure India has zero imports in zinc.

Our Vedanta Nico has also followed HZL by agreeing to supply nickel to AEsir's best selling Zinc-Nickel battery.

Vedanta is unique among all global diversified mining companies as 70% of our revenue comes from futuristic minerals and metals like zinc, silver, copper and aluminium.

We are future ready.

South Korea is a country you would associate with electronics and cars, not oil and gas. But last week, the country has begun drilling in the deep sea off the countryтАЩs East Coast for oil and gas reserves that it estimates could be around 14 billion barrels. A couple of years ago, Guyana, another country not known for oil and gas production found big amounts of oil and gas offshore. Despite AsiaтАЩs first oil well being drilled in Digboi, Assam in the 19th century, India has not been a large producer of oil and gas. We import close to 90% of our requirement but we have much more potential than either Guyana or South Korea.

Three simple reforms can unleash massive investments in this sector. First, self-certification for all clearances with heavy penalties for non-compliance. Second, granting lease for the life of the oil & gas field, rather than for twenty years, and thirdly, the reduction of taxes which are close to 70% of the revenue.

Supporting the growth of this sector, and putting the interests of Indian entrepreneurs first, can result in massive employment generation and fuel IndiaтАЩs growth to become a $5 trillion economy. Energy security is the most important thing for us - unless 50% energy is produced domestically, country will always be vulnerable to what happens in geopolitics.

By doing this the government has only to gain. This is a sector that enjoys no subsidies, unlike most other major industry sectors.

Let us create a policy where the world comes to us.

Over the last three years, the growth in demand for metals in India has far exceeded the growth of mineral production. Growth of copper consumption was 22% while production of copper concentrate grew only 4%. For aluminium, consumption grew by 13% but raw material bauxite only grew at 6%. For ferroalloys, consumption has grown at 30% while production of chromite and associated minerals has only grown at 6%. Even the demand for steel at 13% is faster than the growth of iron ore at 11%.

What this means is that IndiaтАЩs imports of these minerals and metals is only growing steadily. Even for oil, average demand over last three years has grown at 6% whereas domestic production growth has fallen by 1%. Already 50% of our annual import bill, around $380 billion out of $760 billion is on account of natural resources. As the economy is growing at a fast pace, demand for metals and oil will grow even faster.

India has huge geological potential in all minerals, including oil, particularly sweet crude. We must make use of it. Private sector must be encouraged in exploration. Clearances must be granted on a self-certification basis. We should look at brownfield expansion of assets like Hindustan Copper, Bharat Gold Mine, Hutti Gold Mines with private sector participation. Not only will imports come down but crores of jobs and opportunities will be created, especially for those with less skills, completely eradicating poverty. Every country that has advanced has made optimal use of below the ground resources. We should also.

In my 30 years of being in the natural resources industry, the driving force was to see India become self-sufficient in the long run. The natural resources sector is a strong pillar of IndiaтАЩs growth story.

As one of India's largest employment providers and revenue generators, Vedanta is committed to ensuring that we work towards the country's full potential.

Let's 'Make in India' because we can!
6 years, no headlinesтАж

In my early 20s, I acquired my first business - a struggling cable company in Bombay.
No pedigree. No formal training. No support from the bank.
Just belief, and the willingness to learn everything the hard way.

What followed were 6 long years of setbacks.
Strikes. Delays. Machines that broke more than they ran.
There were no headlines, no praise. Just work.

Most people only notice what youтАЩve built once it starts to shine.
But IтАЩve learned - thatтАЩs not where success begins.

It begins in the quiet years.
When you're solving problems no one else sees.
Fixing things you donтАЩt yet know how to fix.
And showing up, even when no oneтАЩs watching.

So if youтАЩre in that phase - where nothing feels big enough, fast enough, good enough - DonтАЩt walk away.
Keep building.

Because that invisible work?
ThatтАЩs what builds everything that comes after.

Mera hamesha manana raha hai that business isn't only about profit. It is about purpose. We have to be conscious of the environment. We have only one Mother Earth whom we must protect. We have to be inclusive with our local communities. They must grow with us. And we must follow rules and transparency in everything we do. Aajkal duniya mein ise ESG ka naam diya hai lekin yeh sab bharat ki sanskritik parampara mein sadiyon se hain.

At Vedanta, we have always strived to work with purpose. So, we are humbled and honored to find ourselves at the top of the most prestigious global rankings for corporate sustainability. The S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (DJSI) has ranked our Hindustan Zinc as number 1 and Vedanta as third among 238 metals and mining companies across the world.

I congratulate our leadership, all our employees and business partners who have taken these goals to their hearts and to their work every day. Without them, it would be impossible to be recognized like this.

In India, our government, our companies are going to do something unique: become prosperous in a sustainable and equitable manner. Meri aasha hai ki bharat vishwa ka margdarshak bane.
