This is not a scene from a horror movie, this is considered to be one of the most incredible moments in the history of medicine.

In 1922, at the University of Toronto, scientists went to a hospital ward to see diabetic children, most of whom were in a coma and dying of diabetic ketoacidosis.

Imagine a room full of parents sitting by the bed waiting for the inevitable death of their child.

Scientists went from bed to bed and injected children with a new purified extract.

When they started administering the new substance to the last comatose child, the first child began to awaken.

Then, one by one, all the children came to life after a diabetic coma. The room of death and darkness has become a place of joy and hope.

Insulin was discovered by Sir Frederick G Banting, Charles H Best, and JJR Macleod and it was later purified by James B Collip. This moment is considered one of the most magical moments of science.

I have the highest regards for Nicolae Paulescu. He was one of the pioneers who hugely contributed to the discovery of Insulin but probbaly has not received the deserved recognition.

Many are choosing to start a data science job without knowing the basics.

This student couldn't find an internship so he built an AI-controlled robot hand!

His code takes in a video stream and uses Computer Vision (MediaPipe, a pre-trained Neural network) to identify the hand joint coordinates.

Then with some linear algebra, those coordinates are converted to servo motor controls and sent to the Arduino.

The processing is done on the computer instead of on the Arduino and that makes the hand extremely responsive.

The mechanics were designed and 3d printed from scratch. The electronics were self-wired and the code was custom-written.

Microsoft Excel is a versatile and powerful tool with many functionalities. Here are some more useful tips and tricks to help you make the most of Excel:

𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗞𝗲𝘆𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗰𝘂𝘁𝘀:
Ctrl + Arrow keys: Navigate quickly around your spreadsheet.

Ctrl + Shift + Arrow keys: Highlight entire rows or columns.

Alt + E, S, V: Opens the Paste Special menu.

Ctrl + Z: Undo.

Ctrl + Y: Redo.

𝗙𝗶𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗙𝗶𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿: Click the dropdown arrow on your column headers to easily filter data.
This allows you to view specific rows that meet certain criteria without deleting anything.

𝗙𝗹𝗮𝘀𝗵 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗹 (𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗹 𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟯 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿): When Excel sees a pattern, it can automatically fill in data for you.

For example, if you have a column of first names and a column of last names, and you start typing full names in a third column, Excel might recognize the pattern and automatically fill in the full names for you.

𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗣𝗶𝘃𝗼𝘁𝗧𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘀: If you have a large dataset and you want to summarize or analyze it, PivotTables can be very handy. It allows you to easily rearrange and aggregate data.

𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗙𝗘𝗥𝗥𝗢𝗥 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Wrap your formulas in an IFERROR function to catch any errors and replace them with a value or message of your choice.

Example: =IFERROR(A1/B1,“Cannot divide by zero“)

𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: This feature allows you to set restrictions on what data can be entered into a cell.

For example, you can set a cell to only accept numbers within a certain range or dates before a specific day.

𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: Highlight cells based on specific criteria.

For example, you can highlight all cells that contain numbers above a certain value or dates that are in the past.

𝗤𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗹𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗗𝘂𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀: If you have a column with duplicate values and you want to remove the duplicates, Excel can do this easily.

Go to the 'Data' tab and select 'Remove Duplicates'.

𝗡𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝗥𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀: Instead of referring to cells by their coordinates (like A1 or B2), you can name them.

This makes formulas easier to read and manage. Go to the 'Formulas' tab and select 'Define Name' to assign a name to a specific range.

𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝟰 𝗸𝗲𝘆: When editing a formula, press the F4 key to toggle through different reference types (absolute, mixed, relative).

For instance, if you're typing =A1 in a formula and press F4, it will change to =$A$1.

Realtime Eyedot Tracker 👀

One use-case can be an anti-cheating app for online exams!
Frank Spalteholz has implemented a first re-projection onto the screen and it indicates where he is looking at.

The second part is showing the first prototype of a complete multithreaded Media-Pipe-Iris-Tracking (which is still running about 45fps on an iPad Pro although it has to handle 4 TensorFlow models in parallel!).

It's also worthy to note that the Media-Pipe tracker is rather invariant against rotation and scale which is a huge advantage towards precision.

Future: fuse both systems in the next step since that OpenCV-contour-finder is way too sensitive for various situations like dark lighting conditions, blinks (of course), intersections with eyelashes etc.

The latest AI algorithm to make the image dance!\n\nIt tackles human image synthesis, including human motion imitation, appearance transfer, and novel view synthesis, within a unified framework. \n\nThe existing task-specific methods mainly use 2D keypoints (pose) to estimate the human body structure. \nHowever, they only express the position information with no ability to characterize the personalized shape of the person and model the limb rotations. \n\nThis paper proposes to use a 3D body mesh recovery module to disentangle the pose and shape. It can not only model the joint location and rotation but also characterize the personalized body shape. \n\nTo preserve the source information, such as texture, style, color, and face identity, we propose an Attentional Liquid Warping GAN with Attentional Liquid Warping Block (AttLWB) that propagates the source information in both image and feature spaces to the synthesized reference. \n\nHow realistic it is? Overfitting and Underfitting simplified:

By looking at the graph on the left side we can predict that the line does not cover all the points shown in the graph. Such a model tends to cause the underfitting of data. It also called High Bias.

Whereas the graph on the right side shows the predicted line covers all the points in graph. In such a condition you can also think that it’s a good graph which covers all the points. But that’s not actually true, the predicted line into the graph covers all points which are noise and outlier. Such a model is also responsible to predict poor results due to its complexity. It is also called High Variance
.
Now, Looking at the middle graph it shows a pretty good predicted line. It covers the majority of the point in the graph and also maintains the balance between bias and variance.
