Searching for a JOB? I saw a post someone shared seeking employment. He had been recently laid off. There was 0 likes. So I liked and commented. This happened last week. Friday he emailed me to say how grateful he was for my support and he got and accepted an offer.

Many individuals here are searching for jobs and when no one likes or comments on their updates, it feels like added rejection. Job searching is emotionally draining and discouraging. And It takes guts to share, “I am out of work and need a job...”

So when you see such posts, share or drop a like or comment. Every little bit counts. It will boost their visibility and will give them encouragement to keep pressing on. You may not be able to get them a job but someone else who might be able to, may see it.

This is what LinkedIn and true networking is about. Let's help each other out.

I was on a HIRING committee where the CEO didn't like any of the candidates interviewed. He said none of them met his criteria. We clashed on this and I told him that person does not exist. There is no 'perfect' employee.

He ignored my suggestions and the position remained vacant for 4 months. Long story, short...He finally hired someone who had all the qualifications he wanted. This guy had quite an impressive resume! But sadly he did not perform well. He was 'PERFECT' on paper but did not have good people skills.

Qualifications are important but so is soft skills. A perfect resume does not equate to success on the job. Sadly many hiring managers and recruiters ignore these 2 major factors - 'PASSION & POTENTIAL'. A candidate may not tick every box on your checklist, but they may be the ones who can bring so much value to the organization. Agree?

Big MISTAKE.
Loyal employees are often treated worse because they are loyal and thus would not go anywhere. Big mistake. Just because someone is loyal does not mean they can't reach a point of no return. Loyal people quit before they resign, when they had enough. Never push loyal people to the point where they don't care. Think twice about losing them because your own future depends on them. Short post which explains why:

A retired Royal Marine suffering from the degenerative Parkinson’s Disease. Watch the moment his world was changed forever after undergoing a life-changing therapy for Parkinson’s using #deepbrainstimulation Technology. - Boston Scientific

It is simply amazing and will bring a tear or two.
I once interviewed this young lady highly recommended. She was so nervous, couldn't answer a question properly.

It was a panel interview. So I asked the other panelists to leave the room and me and the HR manager remained. She was able to do better with the remaining questions but overall didn't do well in the interview. But as the hiring manager, I couldn't get past my gut feeling she was the best candidate for the job. She had a good track record. I knew I needed to give her a chance and within 6 months, she exceeded all my expectations.

You just never know who it is behind the person shown in an interview. We shouldn't be too quick to cross someone off who didn't do well in the interview. The truth is interviews can be nerve-wracking. There is much more to a person that just passing / failing an interview. Acing an interview does not equate to success on the job.

Focus on the real person and what they can bring to the table. Agree?

Looking for a job ? Follow me. Not because I am amazing, I am very ordinary. But because recruiters tag me with job postings. Whenever I see a job posting, I share it with my network.
I also think everyone should be sharing job announcements. It takes a second, but may change someone's life.
That's what LinkedIn is for !

A RECRUITER contacted me and said she has a great JOB for me. I told her I am not looking but I did recommend 2 people. There are so many individuals out there who are job searching,

1. Always refer others for opportunities. It only takes a few moments but to someone it could be a life changer.
2. You are building a relationship with a recruiter. You never know what tomorrow holds.
3. You help someone find a job and you help the recruiter get a good candidate.

It's sad that she had said few recommend others. Let's help each other out. Always pay it forward. Agree?

My job as a philanthropist is easy compared to these heroes in the field working to make the world a better place.
A ship engine failed, NO ONE could fix it.
Then they brought in a man with 40 yrs. on the job.
He inspected the engine carefully.
Then reached into his bag & pulled out a small hammer.
He gently tapped a spot.
Immediately, the engine rocked into life. It was fixed!
7 Days later, the owners got his bill for $10,000.
'What?!' the owners exclaimed.
'He scarcely did anything.'
They asked for an itemized bill.
His response:
”Tapping with a hammer = $2
Knowing where to tap = $9,998“
Lesson: Don't Ever Underestimate Experience!

A BAD BOSS is one of the most destructive forces a company can have. They may get temporary results, but they leave a trail of destruction in their path. Micromanaging, pointing fingers, and throwing employees under the bus is an absolute morale and productivity killer. Too many bosses treat employees like they can use them, and then discard them to hire someone better. Little do they know, they are only hurting themselves and the company. The INTERVIEW came to an end, and I knew I am not going to get the job. To my SURPRISE, the hiring manager picked up a phone and called someone.
He said - “Hi Jay, I have here an excellent candidate here in front of me, not exactly the right fit for my group, but he is exactly what you need for your area.“

Long story short, I got the job in the same company. IBM was then, and still is, full of excellent leaders !

1. If a candidate is not what you need, you may know someone else who does. You are helping your own company, not to mention everyone involved.

2. Weak leaders only think of themselves. Strong leaders think of others.

3. A quick phone call or a short email can change someone's life.

4. Be someone people remember.

Why is Coke considered the best advertiser in the world by many? Because they're incredible at advertising without even running an ad.

This is a lovely little piece of product design - timed for Christmas. They've been doing this for a few years now, but it seems like it's spreading farther and farther with each passing year. So simple, so elegant, but so effective and so good.

What is MISSING in the Recruiting/ Hiring process?

A HEART!

Many recruiters treat jobseekers like they are at a shopping mall. There is no “perfect“ candidate. Quit wasting everyone's time searching for this. It's not just applicants but PEOPLE you are dealing with.

Job searching can be emotionally draining. Put yourself in the candidates' shoes. Get back to them quickly with feedback. Don't leave candidates hanging. Grant them closure. We all at one point were jobseekers, and it doesn't take much for anyone of us to be a jobseeker again. A little EMPATHY and RESPECT goes a long way. Let's make the recruiting process more HUMANE!

My top ten quotes on fulfilling potential:
#1 reason why employees QUIT: A 'bad boss'. A BAD BOSS is one of the most destructive forces a company can have. Instead of building people up, they pull them down. Micromanaging, pointing fingers and throwing employees under the bus is an absolute morale killer. Employees are the most valuable asset of any company. Treating employees poorly - BIG MISTAKE! “I lost my job as part of my company restructuring.“ - writes to me a young woman. She says “I have been contacting recruiters around the globe. No answer from any of them
I am so qualified. What should I do ?“

1. Whatever you do, don't give up hope, faith and optimism. Your time will come.
2. Employers and recruiters who do not respond do not deserve you.
3. Write a post with your qualifications, tag me and people from your network. We will make your post go viral. People to tag: Brett S. Brody Amer Kayyal Adam Danyal
4. Put a like on posts that come in your feed that you like. Recruiters view profiles of people who are active on LinkedIn.
5. Keep knocking on as many doors as you can. That's what LinkedIn is for. I only wish they gave job seekers unlimited emails. But you can comment on recruiter posts for free, with your details !

Keep faith. As long as you have it, you will prevail.

7 Signs you should HIRE someone.
You hire them because they are
1) Enthusiastic and positive
2) Adaptable
3) Ask good questions
4) Put skills and knowledge into action
5) Team players
6) Humble and honest
7) Love to learn

NOT IMPORTANT DURING INTERVIEW/HIRING
- Confidence (good people are often modest, and many people are not confident in unfamiliar setting and with people they don’t know)
- Exact match of a job description - people are not square pegs to be fit into square holes; your own requirements will change tomorrow anyway

Today I met Sergey Brin, the co-founder of Google and president of Google’s parent company, Alphabet Inc. Sergey and his friend Larry Page founded Google from a dorm room and today the company is worth over $600 billion. Their goal is to organize the world’s knowledge and make it available for all. Sergey and Larry’s inspiring story is similar to Dubai’s story – We both share a desire to build the future. They created the future of knowledge; we created a model city for the future of urbanism. One in five students who planned to attend college don’t actually enroll. They call this “summer melt,” and it’s a phenomenon that disproportionately hurts low income students.
