When you REJECT a CANDIDATE, don't hurt their chances of getting another job.
   1. Tell the RECRUITER all the strong points you saw in the candidate

   2. Give the candidate an advice on the resume and the interview. It does not cost anything to be nice

  3. Get back to the candidate quickly

  4. If you know someone else who may need them, why not help both sides.

On the last point, early in my career, someone told me they dont need me but made a call to another place (a restaurant) and recommended me there. I got the job and I can never forget the woman who helped me.
And I still remember the name of her restaurant, the one that rejected me, fondly.

Be someone who people remember.

14 years ago today, LinkedIn launched its first web site. Every year since we've celebrated the company's birthday along with Cinco de Mayo. Happy Cinco de LinkedIn!
If you want to succeed in your life, remember this phrase: That past does not equal the future. Because you failed yesterday, or all day today, or a moment ago, or for the last six months, the last 16 years, or the last 50 years of your life, doesn’t mean anything…

I started surfing at the age of 62. In the next five years my goal is to surf waves taller than me. 🌊  Richard Branson says, “Never lose the thrill of trying something for the first time.” What are you going to do for the first time? What goals do you have for five years from now?

I’ve always admired doctors. They have to make impossibly hard decisions, and so much of their work has life-and-death implications.

This book, written by a young surgeon with terminal cancer, earned my admiration—and tears.

When someone does something wrong, don't forget all of the things they did right.
Great leaders don't set out to be a leader...they set out to make a difference. It's never about the role and always about the goal.

“Oleg, We hired a WRONG WOMAN !
What happened next was unbelievable, as you like to say.
Our HR made a mistake and made an offer to a person who we rejected based on results of her interview. Her name was similar to our ideal candidate.

This “wrong“ person showed up and turned out to be a great worker !

I asked her later about her interview performance, and she simply said that we made her nervous.
I saw your article “Interviews are a waste of time“ https://lnkd.in/eFuhp_T , and it rang so true.“

Some of the best things in life are beautiful mistakes.
I do wonder how many people get rejected this way ? Most people get nervous during interviews, by unfamiliar people and surroundings, by pressure of the interview and some of the questions that get asked.
We need to make candidates comfortable and relaxed, but more importantly focus on the past track record.
PS. please send me stories like this to share in ANONYMIZED fashion. Some of these are pure gold !
Do you agree ?
Create a vision and never let the limits of what has been done in the past shape your decisions. Ignore conventional wisdom.

Three decisions that we all control each moment of our lives: what we focus on, what things mean, and what to do in spite of the challenges that may appear to limit us.

On LinkedIn, you should ONLY connect with individuals you know and trust. That’s in the user guidelines.

I couldn't subscribe to this. Would you attend a Global networking event with over 500M+ people and only talk to the few people you know?

The real value of LI may not come into full view until the unexpected happens to us. You should MAXIMIZE this business platform.

Build your network. Dig your well before you need the water.

Put yourself out there so other members can get to know you. Share helpful content. Comment on posts. Send/accept connection requests.

Networking is about starting a conversation. Connecting to ONLY people you know or have met before, is like remaining in your comfort zone.

If you plan on using #LinkedIn to grow your business, to promote yourself, or to get found for either job or business opportunities...

You can’t play it safe.

Agree?

Note- Please follow me. I have reached the limit on my connections and can't accept any more invitations. Thank you for understanding.

Effective leadership requires optimal patience: Enough to bring along those essential to execution, not enough for bureaucracy to take over

I recommend reading that, but let me tell you one of my little stories.

Years ago I got a call from a recruiter I knew.
He said he knows I was looking for a while for someone with a rare skill.

He said he knows someone with that skill, and even will NOT charge a fee. He said she had a 4 year lapse in employment, and now has hard time getting any job.

I said I do not care about that - can she do the job, that's all.

Long story short, she passed the interviews with flying colours, and was one of the best developers I worked with.
A year into the job she told me why she had that lapse in employment.

She had a special child, and her husband dumped her and the child because of it.
She stayed home to take care of the child.
When the child grew up and she could arrange for a proper care, she returned to the job market, but did not want to tell anyone she had a special child in addition to her lapse in employment.
Thanks for listening.

The “secret“ to networking:

Give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, give, ask.
Great leaders are those whose behavior powerfully leverages the system of brain interconnectedness. A potent way of becoming a leader is to find authentic contexts in which to learn the kind of social behavior that reinforce the brain's social circuitry.
Leading effectiveness is, in other words, less about mastering situations - or even mastering social skill sets - than about developing a genuine interest in and talent for fostering positive feelings in the people whose cooperation and support you need.
