This is Japan’s manager Hajime Moriyasu bowing to the fans who travelled to Qatar to support their team.

Throughout the entire tournament, the Japanese have shown nothing but grace and respect (both on and off the pitch). And that starts from the top.

Happy to meet&connecting tonight with the originator of new KPI, Robertson Hunter Stewart. Maybe is the time, for all Managers, to read a new book, as well: ”Time to Manage”.

Asked the team if they prefer working in the office or from home… 🤣 (watch til the end)

But seriously… As leaders we have a duty of care to our team to have them around one another, experiencing life as it’s supposed to be, connected (and not through the internet) but real connections with real people that aren’t just the ones we live with.

“Neha, don’t hire freshers, they don’t have experience.”

I’m sorry, but where will they get the experience if we don’t hire them?

I decided to hire freshers, many of whom are just done with their bachelors.

Today I stand at a place where some of them pursue their higher education,

These days, people underestimate the importance of a good education. However, education has played an essential role in my life, especially in molding me into the person I am. The exposure, the networking, the independence, and the life lessons you get from being away from your family.

So, yes, I feel bad because these are kids whom I trained and who are pillars of my company, but at the same time, I feel I am not the one to come in their way to fulfill their dreams, and I’m proud of them for taking this step under my guidance.

What do you all think about hiring freshers?

3) Foque SEMPRE no longo prazo.

Still can’t get over the match. Watching highlights again and again.

It had everything - the class, the vintage touch, the thrill, the audacity, the belief and the execution.

What the lifelong learner in me learnt today:-

Virat’s comeback innings. They said he will fail. They also said he is gone. He came back strong. They will say. Let them. U do what you gotta do and you know what you are worth and you can prove them all wrong.

Hardik’s role today as the perfect partner letting the other hit it out of the park while he kept his cool, got the partnership and kept motivating Virat who said “Hardik kept telling me to believe that we can do it”. Believe in yourself and motivate others who can do it too.

Ashwin’s presence of mind. The temptation is to panic and hit. But he showed nerves of steel by letting that ball go for a wide. Sometimes you need to let go. Not nescesssry to fight with everything in life. Some are meant to be left alone.

Happy Diwali Folks.

What if your loved one was stranded like this?

How many of us our lost and need a helping nudge in our professional path?

Can you deny the fact that we are all on a journey trying to make every day count?

These special creatures are the same.

Sometimes all you need is that genuine helping hand to come through and say I’m here.

Are you just looking for a happy ending?

Well…

Think of someone who you know in this type of situation today.

If you feel abandoned and in total despair with nobody around to help, it is a very dark time in the world.

Imagine what it must be like for us humans when we feel abandoned, not wanted and in total despair.

This is such an inspiring and heartwarming narration!

Dogs are wonderful.

They don't think about the past, they live in the now.

A huge Heartfelt thanks to the rescuers and love to the abandoned dog for saving him, awesome team effort.

Would you be a survivor if this happened to you?

What are you taking away from this whole story?

Dear everyone
Don't switch to English when foreigners speak to you in your language.

A lot of people who live abroad face a very particular challenge when learning the local language.

They rarely get to practice.
And without practice, they cannot become fluent.

Daily life's small interactions make up 70% of mastering a new language.

Please don't take that real-world practice away from them!
If they want you to switch to English, they will let you know.

English is the lingua franca everywhere, and people are pretty polite.
So the moment you try to practice the language with a native speaker, they will often switch to English within 0,00001 seconds.

To make it easy for you.

But to learn a new language, you don't need easy.
You need to go through a miserable rocky road of obstacles to come out fluent on the other side.

So, dear everyone. Don't switch to English.
Help internationals practice language everywhere.

They will love you for it. 🧡

“So this happened in Montana. I'm on my way to go to my interview this morning when I get pulled over by a police officer.

I am native American and my friend that was with me is black. Just saying.

Both brake lights decided to go out this time.

As he walked to the car and I was pulling out my stuff, he quickly said,

“Don't worry about pulling anything out. I just want you to know that your brake lights are out.“

So I'm immediately upset, because I just got them replaced like last month.

So I explained to him how Firestone wants to charge me $600 just to run a test on the wiring of the car.

He looked at me like 😨 and told me to pop the trunk.

He checked the lights in the trunk and tapped them, but they didn't come on.

So he told me to pop the hood to check the relay box then asked me to get out to check the other one.

Then worked on the wiring under the dash.

He could've easily given me a ticket, but Officer Jenkins stepped out of officer role, and into mechanic role, and human role to make sure I was straight.

By the way HE FIXED THEM. Not everyone is racist, or a bad cop.”

Welcome to the Spanx HQ! 💥

This is the lobby at our home office in Atlanta... the entire back wall is our origin story...(Which if you don't know started with $5000 in my personal savings and my Lucky Red Backpack, can you see it on the wall? 🎒) Before I started Spanx, I spent most of my time in grey cubicles working in offices that were not inspiring. 😴 I would sit in those grey cubicles and daydream about … if , one day… I had my own company I would do it differently. The walls would have color. I would invest in the office so everyone who worked there could feel they mattered, and they were appreciated. Well, dreams come true! The carpets at Spanx are animal print, art is on every wall, there is an outside rooftop patio and garden, music is always playing through the halls, Galaga and Ms. Pac-Man is on hand, Olivia Newton John’s original “Grease” pants are on display, and there is no shortage of butt sculptures! 😂 So many amazing ideas, events, products, friendships and memories have been made in this building and many more to come! ❤️

I'll say it again.

Culture is not bean bags, free beer, or a free subscription to a meditation app.

Culture is:

- Not scheduling meetings before or after the working day
- Not scheduling meetings over lunch
- Not publicly shaming individuals in front of the team
- Not pressuring parents to parent around their work instead of working around their kids
- Hiring appropriately and not letting the team carry the load alone
- Not promoting a false sense of your companies culture online

Your actions define your culture. Your culture defines your brand.

People don't leave because they don't have free stuff, they leave because they can recognise the difference between a good culture and a bad one.

John Lewis have lost £99 million in 6 months after deciding to “forego profit” to help their customers & staff during the cost of living crisis.

Here's what they're investing in rather than profit:

- A £500 cost of living payment for full time staff
- A 4% increase in entry level pay
- Free meals during winter

And as a business owner, I can't think of anything more commendable than John Lewis putting their people first.

👏👏👏
This is my version of flexibility.

Here I am on a 4pm call, off camera, starting dinner for my family. So when they come home at 5pm, we can be present and eat together instead of rushing - which inevitably leads to someone yelling or crying.

I can't do this for every 4pm meeting, but I can for some.

When I say I want flexibility, I don't just mean I want the ability to go pick up my kid when they are sick.

Flexibility, to me, is the autonomy to get things done in the best way for my job and my life.

Flexibility is the ability to own the ebb and flow of my day and my week to meet all the needs.

Flexibility doesn't pit needs - the needs of work and family - against each other. Flexibility says, “How can I meet all the needs in a way that is sustainable.“

Flexibility says “Hold me accountable to the results and let me take care of the rest.“

--------------

I have received enough comments and DM's with unsolicited cooking and safety advice, criticism of my commitment to my job and my performance, questioning if I care about frontline workers and unwarranted commentary regarding my capability to perform. I will always write posts from my unique perception and position. And all I ask is that you consider that it's a human behind this profile.

This single incident prompted her to pursue a career in civil services and in her second attempt she cracked the exam with an 𝐀𝐈𝐑 73.

It’s so heartening to see true businessmen like Kamal Agrawal of Haldiram Foods International Ltd build solid brands and cash flow businesses, which make us ponder what we should be doing differently in startups.

Just humility, passion and relentless execution. And self realisation. “Hum to DNA se Halwai hai. Sote, uthte, baithte, jaagte sirf khaana hi sochte hai !!”

It’s important to celebrate the profit churning Lalas as much we do valuation building Founders !!

On 26 Dec 2016 morning I was getting ready for my office.

I got a call for a blood request.

27 Dec is my birthday when I usually donate blood, so I thought to donate blood a day before.

I reached hospital, donated blood, handover the donor card to the person who called me and he was gone with that card.

I took mandatory rest of 5-10 minutes after donation and as I took a half day leave, so I decided to meet the family.

I went up to the ward, met the wife of the patient and introduced myself to her. She said “Bhaiya aap yaha kyon aaye ho, humne toh paise se diye hai (why you came here, I have made the payment”.

I was surprised as there was no payment (or processing fees) required in that govt hospital for admitted patients for blood.

I called the guy but he didn’t responded my call and then switched off. I realised that I have been cheated.

I went to authority but they were also helpless to do anything.

As the blood I donated was given to the patient it was supposed to go, the money that person took was in cash, so no proof to file any case.

As it was hard to arrange cash (during demonetisation), I thought to give whatever I cash I had to that lady.

So I went to the ward but she was not there. There was a Bengali lady who told me that she took her husband for few tests.

While waiting I started talking to that Bengali lady.

I was shocked and broken to hear that the lady who paid for my blood got into prostitution to pay medical bills for her husband.

I couldn’t believe and I kept the cash under the pillow to left the hospital.

I was driving back and while in tears I called my wife.

She told me not to cry, as if I can do anything in this case there is no point of crying and if I can’t do, then my tears are not going solve anything.

That was the day, I decided to leave my well paying job and work on blood donation only.

The black marketing of blood was happening due to shortage of blood supply.

We just need to have atleast 5 million more blood donors to solve the blood shortage across India.

During COVID19, we all saw the worst side of blood donation during Plasma crisis.

People were making excuses for not going to donate blood or plasma.

Whereas the same people were standing in queues outside wine shops after the lockdown.

And then I realised that it’s not a systematic problem, it was an attitude problem of all of us.

There is no point to celebrate blood donor day as it was irrelevant for most of the days.

That’s when I decided to walk across India to wake up our nation to donate blood and make sure that…

“Nobody should die waiting for blood after 31st December 2025”

Last night I got a voice message (for birthday wishes) from that same lady who changed my life.

She lost her husband to cancer in 2018 and I helped her to come out of brothel by getting her a job. She is now happily married.

I promised her, that I will do whatever possible to end blood shortage, so that no other lady had to see what she went through.

1000 days since I prayed to God to please save me, while I lay in a hospital bed, my spirit completely broken, all of 98lbs.

1000 days since I put a needle in my arm wishing it would take my pain away.

1000 days since my absolute hardest rock bottom.

1000 days since I crawled out of that darkness and slowly found myself.

1000 one day at a times. Some of those days being the hardest and messiest days, ever. All of which taught me more about myself.

1000 days FREE.

Thank you, Jesus, for giving me a life worth living! I am forever grateful for another chance. 🤍

Powerful testimony, my friend!

My dad came to the US from India. He was a prominent government doctor with a great life. Here, he was nobody. Not even a doctor.

But that didn't stop him.

He worked in factories for minimum wage. He became a phlebotomist. And, perhaps most challenging, he became a student again so he could retake all of his medical board exams.

He then drove our family cross country from California to New Jersey so he could re-do his medical training and residency.

Finally, with everything done, he had many cushy options.

But instead, he chose to serve in NYC's poorest zip codes as a PCP in solo practice!

And during those first few years, he also worked nights at Rikers to take care of the prison population. Metal detectors, guards, fights. This was to make ends meet...and put me through college.

Hard work, integrity, dedication, simplicity. I saw these manifested through the toughest of times. He shaped everything about me.

He also guided my evolution professionally. My dad:
→ introduced me to the world of SDoH (pre-buzzword)
→ showed me the tremendous impact that 1 person can have
→ shared with me many of the core insights that eventually led to the creation of InquisitHealth

And most concretely, he recommended his best patients to be InquisitHealth's first mentors!

He's truly a rare breed. Decades of dedication.
Loved his job. Loved his patients. His patients loved him.

I'm happy to share that after 30 years of service...
He retires today 😎

Bereavement policy…let’s talk about it.

In 2013, my grandmother, who was my favorite person, had a brain tumor. She was rushed to hospital and put on life support.

She was states away, and I had a narrow window to go down, hold her hand, and tell her my final goodbyes before they stopped the support.

The funeral would be held about a week later.

Distraught, I went to my then corporate HR department to tell them I’d need to take multiple days for this traumatic loss.

“Well, she’s not immediate family, so you only get one day.”

“What? She’s like a parent to me?”

“I’m sorry, that’s the policy.”

“Ok, I’ll just take time with no pay. This is important. I can’t put a price on being with my family.”

“Mmm as a salaried employee that’s not really common…”

I stood there incredulously.

It was a shame, because otherwise I had a great experience with this employer; that incident left such a sour taste in my mouth.

So, when I started my own company, I vowed I’d never do that to people. Grief is a process. A HARD one.

At Brandwise, we give generous paid time when…

> a loved one dies
> a pet dies
> friends die

Because I’ll never make someone work through their grief and not be with their family as they heal.

People > policy.

If you’re not exercising compassion as a leader, people WILL remember that.
